Mitch McConnell is making me change my mind

Dec 10, 2020, 8:51 AM

about a 51 - 49 Republican Senate.

Why can't the new relief package include all of the suggested unemployment support and the $600 stimulus checks. The difference in cost would be negligible compared to the need for the economic shot needed right now.

And why shouldn't state and local governments get some extra help right now. Surely all of them have incurred significant extra expenses brought on by the Virus.

I will agree that postponing the liability language might be worthwhile. This seems like a complex issue that could use a bit more time to iron out to everyone's satisfaction.

It would be nice if they would simply allow us

to print money ourselves. That way, we could all get as much relief as we need. Not only that, we'd save Uncle Sam the aggravation of having to print all that fiat currency himself. We should all support this plan of rugged individualism. Printers are cheap these days.

Uncle Sam does not print the money, the federal reserve is a private bank we borrow from.

Balm,

Actually, I think the Treasury Dept. prints the money. They use the Fereral Reserve Bank to inject it in to the economy.

The investment of some stimulus money now will save us billions in economic damage in the long run.

Long story short......

Dec 10, 2020, 9:10 AM

The economy funds the government, not the other way around. Dirty little secret no Congressman from either party will ever let you know.

Re: Long story short......

Tiggity,

I think that is a bit simplistic. The government is a significant part of the economy.

If macroeconomics is done well, it becomes a symbiotic relationship.

Our federal government produces close to zero other than the postal service and prison license plates.

The real kicker is the federal government has ALWAYS

Dec 10, 2020, 12:07 PM

extracted between 15-20% out of our GDP, irregardless (nod to college roommate) of the tax rate and tax brackets. 95% tax rate for the top, 30% tax rate for the top. No change in the percentage of GDP that equals.

Kinda makes you wonder what we've gotten ourselves into doesn't it?

Today you will learn about the Cantillon Effect

Dec 10, 2020, 10:45 AM

and why you need to quit complaining and just start your own private equity fund in order to have instant access to the money.

It's a 1/10th of a one percenter's world, and we are all just here to look up and give 'em a big ole gap-toothed smile while we shine their shoes in a petri dish full of Covid, lol. McConnell is just trying to prevent them from tort exposure after they forced you to work in said petri dish.

Wall street never got a "bail out"

Dec 10, 2020, 10:49 AM

the banking industry got loans that they paid back with interest. You want, and probably already received a check, for doing absolutely nothing. That is a recipe for disaster.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How many times have you gotten "loans" to pay for a scam

Dec 10, 2020, 11:12 AM

you created to bilk your own customers and others...?

Not only did they admit to the crimes, they paid themselves 'bonuses' for getting away with it...

That's crony capitalism's 'justice' at it's apex and it's core.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this is about the reality of cash flow

Dec 10, 2020, 11:50 AM [ in reply to Wall street never got a "bail out" ]

I actually agree with you about the stimulus checks, it wasn't the solution we needed.

This article posits that Federal Reserve lending is a kind of bailout, because it alleviates cash flow issues for large private equity firms. Proximity to the money supply window is the reason we have created humongous gaps between big fish and little fish in our economy, and Covid has magnified this reality.

This is reason why wall street is booming despite the fact we have 20 million unemployed, as indicated in a K-shaped recovery. Access to money matters, you can't deny it.
