Did any real news people actually report on it?

All I saw was some internet types and I don't believe almost any of that.

The timing never made any sense anyways. No one has yet figured out how to get out of a GoR.
Media companies are not flush with cash right now. (Note: no school has changed conferences and gotten more than about $30M per year since USC/UCLA announced their departures from the PAC).
