the classroom even though he has set his sights on the NFL. That's impressive.
How many girls do we have on the rowing team? It looked like they had 30 girls on the honor roll list.

but why are there so many rowing athletes? Someone please explain that. I'm not being a d-bag, I just don't understand the sport and how many participate on a team.

Ha...I understand that but what exactly do they all do? Is that one of those sports that each "starter" or team has numerous alternates?

The long run-down on why they need so many bodies

Rowing events are generally called "regattas", in which, like track, a number of different events exist. There are two main classifications: Novice, and Varsity. Novice are first-year scholarship rowers, Varsity are those with at least a year of experience.
Within those two primary classifications, events are generally ran for boats of two primary sizes: One with 8 rowers + coxswain = 9 women, and the other with 4 rowers and + coxswain = 5 women. There are also pairs, doubles, and singles (2, 2, and 1 women) that aren't raced much at the NCAA level, if at all.
For each of these events, you can often enter a second boat. Sometimes, the top notch lineups race in a "Champ" event, and the rest race in JV or a "2nd" event.
At this level, rowers don't typically race more than two events, especially in the Spring. There is a good bit of drop-off in performance seen after racing a rower more than once.
So to fill all of the events and get the most points (you generally get points based on the placement of your entries), we need bodies, and lots of them.
I don't work with the women's team, but I do help coach the Club team at Clemson, and we're about 87 strong ourselves. Granted, we're not scholarship.

Holy crap. Well done, sir.
If you've ever heard him interviewed or read the transcript, the kid is brilliant and hysterically funny.

Dawson follows in the foot steps of our last punter, Jimmy Maners, who had the highest football GPA while he was here-4.0 also.

I had completely forgotten about the big brain on Manners.
Come to think of it, I seem to remember something about Wake's punter a few years back (Plackemeier) having a ridiculously high GPA. Evidently punters have to have mind control over stuff. (That's telekinesis, holmes.)

Clemson graduates very proud of their school. However, it is truly unfortunate that our swimming teams, with their great GPAs, are being eliminated from Clemson University. I will miss them.

Also, the UCoots calculates their GPA's such that it makes

them higher. They give a 3.5 for a B+, a 2.5 for a C+ etc... Any B is a 3.0 and any C is a 2.0 at Clemson. My son's roommate at Clemson who will apply for Dentistry school in Charleston says he will have .5 added to his GPA when he applies whereas a UCoot graduate has nothing added to his GPA. So just remember when UCoot brags on their athlete's GPA's, it is skewed.
