What is the difference between the SEC ESPN deal &

Dec 13, 2012, 4:37 PM

the ACC ESPN deal? Serious question.

We both have TV deals with ESPN. I know that SEC teams make significantly more $ per school, but why else would ESPN continually pimp the SEC over the other leagues?

What is their motivation behind wanting the SEC to be better than all other leagues if they have deals with the other conferences as well?

A bunch of zeros, from what I understand***

Add on question what is the difference in the two contracts right now. As far as I know the SEC has yet to finalize a new deal with ESPN and is still making 17M per year (same as the ACC).

I think you might be right, currently it's just constant

praise of anything sec. The money hasn't even kicked in yet, unless schools took loans. I'd love to see some sort of implosion and those schools have to eat it.

I do think the delay may be ESPN dragging its feet on giving the SEC what it wants. I think the initial projections were based on the deals with the Big12 and PAC. Everyone assumed they would be worth more, but I don't think ESPN really wants to pay that much more because the market has leveled out.

I know there was a gap in the start date of the SEC and ACC contracts that led to the SEC making a substantial bit more but I don't think it will be as drastic once everything comes out. The real difference will be in the money from personal Networks (ACC has a chance because of large markets and ND), and Playoff money (shouldn't be more than a couple million/team based on breakdown in BCS article yesterday).

does anyone not realize the difference is that SEC has ESPN and CBS. ACC only has ESPN. Our teams provide more content to the ESPN family then any other group. that includes NFL ,NBA ,SEC ,and anything else you think of.
The bias comes from the field SEC just plays better in football , and the fact that ACC fans do not follow their tems as closely in general , the "passion " is not there (Clemson exluded).
Get over this Bias BS and just play ball . Winn GAMES and all will be fine continue to lose to teams out of conference and the gap will get wider.

Hope you are right. But, I'm very scared of what the SEC

will get. I suspect that the athletic departments in Clemson, Tallahasse, Atlanta and Louisville are also very concerned.

Well for one thing if they do launch the SEC network and ESPN is a partner in it they stand to make a lot of money. The more they can build it up and make the brand stronger the more advertising money it will bring. The ACC deal is more about basketball and ESPN has the rights to more content in that deal.

I would think the ratings are the main reason for the hype...SEC's ratings are higher so they advertise them more.
I also don't think the deals are the same...ESPN shows almost all of the SEC games except the CBS one and one or two crappy match-ups a week...
Since ESPN's deal with the SEC, I only have to do pay per view once a season to watch LSU. Before it was 2-3 a year.
I don't follow the ACC that closely, but it doesn't seem like they have as many games on every week as the SEC on ESPN...

Crazy Audience Drawing Coaches

Dec 13, 2012, 6:49 PM

Saban, Miles, Spurrier, Muschamp, Richt, and possibly some up and comers like Sumlin draw in viewers and most of all.....WINS. As long as the SEC has been winning all the championships through Saban and Miles, ESPN has been right there as well as other networks. As long as the SEC as a whole keeps winning games in dominant streaks, both ESPN and the SEC will make money for getting that exposure. The SEC are going to have to be beaten at a constant rate and every time they line up against somebody on the field of play for a long time in order for the TV markets to shift. Those coaches win and they bring a certain intrigue and that produces ratings($$$). Its like people are wondering what is Saban or Spurrier going to do or say next and ESPN supports that, follows that, and spins that just to get viewers tuned in.
