to 8.5 million. I can see this struck a cord with many of you. It actually brought out a little of the dark side from some of you. Maybe Dabo could just pay his kids own way rather than using up scholarships. ? I’m sure he could afford it.

I will agree on that. I wonder if coaches kids could get a pass on paying anything including counting against the 85. Seems someone smarter than myself could work that into the contract.

I have no problem with putting your boys on the team, but any way you slice it, we have been playing at a self inflicted scholarship reduction with Dabo’s and BVs kids taking them from actual recruits…I’m sure they are great kids and all, but there’s no way that it doesn’t impact the team, when every athlete has had to put up with it at some level in their past. It’s an unfortunate part of youth sports, but usually ends at the HS varsity level.
So, one of my few criticisms of Dabo is that he could afford to pay and we will never know who we missed by favoring the coach’s kids.
Dabo is worth it, but it has been an issue…everyone has blind spots and this is Dabo’s.

We all can get ahead of ourselves from time to time so no harm no foul. I will say though that when people start railing about Dabo's salary, I do kind of shake my head. If you add up the economic impact on the athletic program, the university, the town of Clemson, the state of SC and the ACC, and all of the dollars attributed to the football program's success during Dabo's tenure, that number ends with a B, meaning Billions of dollars in economic incentives over that time. Not to mention the TV contracts the ACC is able to negotiate because of the success of the Clemson football program.
We should always remember the cost/benefit analysis of what a successful football program can bring because the dollars are astronomical, hence why you see so much competition for talent and the dollars involved to attract the best players and coaches.
At the end of the day, whatever we pay Dabo for the time he is at Clemson will generate a significant return on our investment.
