Lawrence hooked up with Ross deep down the sideline and the big receiver beat Love's backup, Donte Vaughn, for a tackle-breaking, 52-yard score early in the second quarter. The Irish looked as if they might keep it close to halftime, but they couldn't keep Clemson out of their backfield – even without suspended star tackle Dexter Lawrence.

In the final 2 minutes, Trevor Lawrence connected with Ross on a 42-yard score and with Tee Higgins for a one-handed, 19-yard touchdown reception – again over Vaughn – with 2 seconds left in the second quarter. Lawrence was 13 for 15 for 229 yards in the quarter.

… That made it 23-3 at half and once again the Fighting Irish looked outclassed against the best of the best.

willing to interrupt their #### long enough could tell you, it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Severus and Cassius.

EXACTLY 239 years ago, it was Saturday, January 15, 1785. This date is important, as it was the birth date of William Prout, physicist and chemist whose discovery was one of the reasons Ernest Rutherford named the proton the proton.

Why was Prout important? In 1823 he discovered that gastric juices contain hydrochloric acid and that these can be separated by distillation and, in 1827, he proposed the classification of food substances into carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

However, Prout is best remembered for his research in physical chemistry. In 1815, taking as a reference the tables of atomic weights of his time, he postulated the hypothesis: "The atomic weight of every element is an integer multiple of the weight of hydrogen, so the hydrogen atom is the only really fundamental particle and that the atoms of other chemical elements are made up of groups of several hydrogen atoms”.

Later this was not corroborated, although it was a sufficiently fundamental approximation to the structure of the atom for the prestigious Ernest Rutherford, in 1920, to choose the name of the newly discovered "proton" for, among other reasons, to recognize the merit of Prout.

In other words, Prout may not have had all the right answers, but he asked enough of the right questions, and made a good enough hypothesis to lead to the next steps forward in physical chemistry.

Later on, this subject would frustrate myself and many others at Clemson University.
