Here's a list of lies many rubes actually believed

Dec 4, 2022, 8:46 AM

- Cade isn't ready
ACCCG MVP. Clearly a lie. He showed the same leadership ability and efficiency we saw last night when he got in during the GT game.

- DJ is our best QB
Nope, he can't run the offense or make reads during the play. Flashes of good passing but most of the time telegraphs the throw and releases late.

- The team just needed a Spark
No, they need a QB who understands the offense and doesn't need to be coddled.

- Even Steph Curry has a bad day
No, DJ just can't run the offense, and against inferior teams Streeter was able to baby-step him through it with a limited playbook so the stats didn't really tell the full story.

- We see in practice every day that DJ is the guy
Cade only repped with the 2s, so he didn't get a chance in practice. This is inexcusable after what happened with Syracuse.

I'm drawing a blank now because that Steph Curry one is such blatant BS. Feel free to add your favorites as well!

Dec 4, 2022, 8:56 AM [ in reply to Re: Here's a list of lies many rubes actually believed ]

That's the dumbest argument ever. It implies coaches are perfect simply because they're coaches. Let me ask you something, does Mark Richt and every other former coach not know football when they disagreed with Dabo starting DJ?

That's an argument from authority, basically saying Dabo can't be wrong because we are coaches. After last night if you still can't understand what we've been saying for weeks, YOU don't understand football. QBs can either play fundamental football or they can't. Cade can, DJ can't. Reading the field, avoiding pressure, being assertive at the line of scrimmage, being decisive, ball placement......it isn't even close. A freshmen just confirmed that a guy that started 27 games or whatever hasn't developed enough to be close to where Cade is right now.

You're wrong, Dabo is wrong, Streeter is wrong. Admit it like a man.

I've had to do that so many times in the past and that's ok. We don't hit on them all. I was all in on DJ and at some point I had to admit it.

In 2018 Kelly Bryant played 4 games before Trevor was named the starter. Why do you think Dabo waited 4 games? Do you think maybe Trevor wasn't ready to start in his opinion? Do you think the talking heads on TV actually know the information Dabo has seeing them play every day?

You seem to believe that our football coaches are always right and fans can’t possibly know anything.

While coaches obviously have more football knowledge than fans do, and surely understand the details fans don’t, that doesn’t mean that fans can’t see what’s working or offer suggestions or critiques.

The thing that bothers me the most is that in a year or two, everyone will say "DJ wasn't thar good but he was better than Cade and Cade wasn't ready. Remember the pick he threw against ND?"

In reality, he got thrown in a terrible situation and he was the better QB even then. But people won't remember it that way.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree, that was atrocious, especially after Cade bailed

Dec 4, 2022, 9:00 AM

the coaches out with Syracuse. We had 2 weeks to get ready for ND and they STILL didn't let him rep with the 1s, then DJ goes out and takes a dump all over the field and they STILL don't put Cade in until it's too late. Then we're on our own 7 or something and they call a naked bootleg? Cade makes a mistake then he's benched for the rest of the game, meanwhile next play DJ throws a pick 6. None of it makes any sort of logical sense.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I agree, that was atrocious, especially after Cade bailed

Dec 4, 2022, 10:05 AM

Totally agree. Also, people like to look at Cades INT superficially, but when you understand he was thrown in the game to be a spark, he had a naked bootleg with a guy about to sack him in the endzone for a safety, he can't throw it away either because it's a safety, he's gotta force a throw. Across your body is a hard throw to make. He was literally put in maybe the worst situation you can think of and was off by a few feet and that's all anyone remembers. Truth be told, that's a safety with DJ in the same situation because he's sacked before he even gets a chance to throw it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Absolutely right. I've also heard "he only handed it off

Dec 4, 2022, 10:16 AM

in the Syracuse game"

Those people don't have a single clue how our offense works, lol.

Knowing when to hand the ball off and when to not hand the ball off was one of DJ's biggest problems!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DJ doesn't catch the ball, play safety, or return kicks

Dec 4, 2022, 9:05 AM

Neither does Cade but somehow magically we won the game

Cade made the right decisions and delivered the ball on time. The WRs sure looked a lot better didn't they? Amazing how that works.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Obvious Cade is the better QB, but

Dec 4, 2022, 9:13 AM

you have to take into account roster management. If you benched DJ midseason, there’s a chance he hits the portal. Then you have a true freshman QB and Hunter Johnson as your back up. Kade gets one hit and goes down injured and we’re playing Hunter Johnson. The coaches know this, and they gave DJ a very very long leash. Did it cost us the South Carolina game? Yes it did, and that pisses me off, but I understand why they did it. One thing I would change in the coaching decisions, was to put Kade in the fourth quarter of the South Carolina game. Not making that one move cost us a spot in the playoff

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's an excuse. If Cade was named starter after Syracuse

Dec 4, 2022, 9:18 AM

we would be 13-0 right now. You gotta take risks to get rewards.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Look, if you really want to get into the weeds on that

Dec 4, 2022, 10:19 AM [ in reply to Obvious Cade is the better QB, but ]

aspect, Hunter Johnson was the #1 QB prospect in the country in 2017. He was a pure pocket passer and yet we recruited him for our RPO offense, and we never, ever could or would adjust our offense to fit his strengths.

We can't just keep whistling through the graveyard about how we bat under .500 on top QB prospects. If we had an offensive coordinator who was nimble enough to game plan around HJ's strengths, we might not have been stuck with no good options last year, with quite possibly the best defense in our history squandered terribly.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But wait! The dominoes would've fallen different....

Dec 4, 2022, 10:42 AM [ in reply to Obvious Cade is the better QB, but ]

CK2 saves us in the USC game, Dabs goes on another "he sparked us, but hey, we won the game" defense, DJ plays much more in the UNC game because of less frustration by still winning the USC game, we BARELY win again, go to the playoff, then get embarrassed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Obvious Cade is the better QB, but

Dec 5, 2022, 12:29 PM [ in reply to Obvious Cade is the better QB, but ]

I think it is simpler.
Cade at this point has more upside.
He was not ready to start the year.
The coaches play the players who give Clemson the best shot at winning.
Had Cade started the season - after watching some of his decisions thru the year - we would have lost more games.
If Dabo would have sacrificed the season - ok. Instead, Clemson won 11 games, won the ACC. Ouch, what poor decision that was.

The “no friggin clue” one is so bad that, as far as I can recall, Dabo is now the second coach to speak poorly of Clemson fans. The only other one was Ken Hatfield, who accused fans of being disloyal.

I never in all my years following Clemson heard Tommy Bowden, Tommy West, Danny Ford, or Charley Pell say a single negative or condescending word about Clemson fans. But Dabo and Hatfield have their own club in this regard.

Ignorant statements.

For this to hold water - which it does not.
You would have to believe that Dabo and the coaches sabotaged the season. Tell us why.
They knowingly did not play someone really ready.

Absolute horse crap.

Coaching staff knows what they are doing. Keyboard wanna be coaches. Coaches made the decision when they felt like Cade gave Clemson the best chance of winning. Simple as that.

I was more than pleased with Cade. But jeez, it was against UNC after an entire year of him getting practice and working on his game.
Unc gave up 60 to app state.
Heck, unc gave up massive points and yards to everybody.

So, while you are making things up, factor in unc, factor in a seasons worth of practice before you spread crud.

Naked honesty is confrontational to some on Tnet

Dec 5, 2022, 12:30 PM

CharlestonTom® ... You have been in the forefront of opining that Cade Klubnik would be ready and much more effective at the QB position than DJ. You were and are 100% right, and I have been 100% on the same page all season.

Whether due to team chemistry or other mysterious contingencies, Dabo was unwilling to pull the plug on DJ until the championship game and team performance suffered. I was in Charlotte Sat night and saw the Clemson fan base collectively exhale and give Cade a standing ovation just for entering the game. Then Cade, as talented or not, played as well as DW4 or TL16 ever did in an ACCCG.

A lot to look forward to with Tiger Football, but this catharsis of the those correctly forecasting Cade's abilities and underlining their correctness to the so many who are on record as demeaning and doubting his abilities is part of the process.

Looking forward to most Tiger factions getting back on the same page and the Tigers bashing Tennessee.

Dec 5, 2022, 12:52 PM

account. If they did, coaches would have to honestly evaluate their decisions rather than just kicking the can down the line, so we would make corrections faster. That's what it is all about.

I didn't like the Dabo hire and everyone reminds me of that constantly, but I'm also the first one to say he's earned his right to be the coach permanently until he decides to move on. That doesn't mean he is above criticism, and this season is a GREAT EXAMPLE of what happens when someone is treated as if they are above criticism.
