It's Elementary My Dear Watson
Will Deshaun Watson play against South Carolina next week? It's too early to tell, but if he is cleared to play he should be Deshaun Watson the passer and not Deshaun Watson the running back. Photo by Joshua S. Kelly / USATODAY Full Story » |

Interested in what the fraidy-coot slant will be on this. Something pathetically clueless IMO.

He won't have time to be a pocket passer behind our O-Line..
Nov 19, 2014, 3:16 PM
|
|
That is our main issue on offense. No run game and can't provide adequate time for passing game. QB better be mobile to have a chance.

Sadly, your correct. I want to beat SC with Deshaun but keeping him healthy for next year might be more important. It's a tough choice to make.

First and foremost South Carolina has to be able to rush the passer. Our O line is good enough to stop a team with a total of 6 sacks here after playing 10 games on the season.

Cole Stoudt sucks, is a DuD, and has ran this season in the ground. I thought it was agreed that Stoudt has elementary school football skills. I hope watson bounces back strong. SOOO Glad there is not another year for Stoudt.

That's been one of my things all along.
Everyone understands that the Chad likes to run the QB and that it opens the other plays up. But the value you get from that doesn't offset the risk when you consider how great of a passer he is.
Treat him like a regular NFL-style QB and you get just as much benefit IMHO.

Don't think he does. I'm no coach, but think I know what works. What we're getting does NOT work.

Best article I've read on Watson since being injured. Hood nailed it, and hopefully the coaches will follow his reasoning if they can play Deshaun. It's time we beat the Columbia Clodhoppers.

David Hood is usually spot-on

Go back and read David hood's articles all season long. He really has good insight into football. I wish Coach Morris would read and listen. Unfortunately he has fallen into the "we do what we do" mentality. He was most effective when he was in "we do what the defense isn't looking for" mode. Come on, coach...get back to what made you a good OC.
Go Tigers!

but the way he got hurt could just as easily happen rolling out of the pocket on a pass play.

Vic Beastly to the backfield on 3rd down as a pass blocker. He is quick enough and could give our quarterbacks more time to make a play with their arms. BEAST MODE

He needs to be like Russell Wilson move to extend the play and if there is open ground take it and get out of bounds or down. I also don't have an issue if there is an occasional QB draw to keep the D honest. In the end he is a football player nigh a china doll, he might get hurt but that is part of the game. If we don't let him be DW he will become Cole Stoudt.

I disagree about not running...
Nov 20, 2014, 10:21 AM
|
|
If that is what the D gives you, take it. I disagree with the idea of playing scared. You can't manage a game like it is a conservative investment portfolio for someone about to retire. Mostly, you leave it out there. Are there things you can do to protect yourself? Absolutely. No hurdling. Do not fight for extra yards if you already have a first down. Nothing wrong with that. That is just smart. But, you can't help the D by not taking an open running lane for a 1st down on a 3rd down.
I saw nothing inherently risky about DW in the Ga Tech game. Yes, he went down. But, I watched it over and over and I saw nothing to suggest he did anything to cause an injury. That was truly a freak injury. Thankfully, it was only the LCL. I am sick of all the second-guessers out there including myself. I am a fan regardless of the outcome. Go Tigers!
