Hawg Pit Question: You metal joungers

Mar 2, 2018, 11:05 AM

I have a a 8ft x 4ft hog pit that came with the house. Nice little thing, bricked up, under a nice shade tree, split in two with a middle section that can be removed.

I need advice on what metal to use for the grates. These would have to be 4x4 ft each. It would be outside 24/7. I was looking at expansion metal. Can get a 4x4 sheet for around $30 but not sure on the durability.

The last owner of the grill used dog pen fencing for the grate.

It will last for years outside. No worries. A little rust never hurt anybody.

Stainess would be (IMHO) needlessly expensive.

Don't do galvanized or zinc coated or any thing like that. You need to preserve the few brain cells that you have left.

Just make sure there is absolutely no coating or galvanizing on whatever you get.
