I think I saw chains pulled out maybe once all season.

There was a lot of "ehh, close enough" type spots.

yes i have noticed it, not only college but nfl, the chains will only be used if it is an extraordinary situation in a big game. it does make one wonder though when the decision was made to quit being precise and just wing it for the most part.

Probably around the same time they decided to ignore other things

Agreed and I am all for it. We also don’t need to delay the game for two minutes so they can add three seconds to the clock.

We get flagged for PI and the WR has our guy by the head and pulls him into to knock himself over. Those refs had jet lag or were butt hurt the ACC took Stanford and Cal and didn't hire them!

They have adopted a "put the ball directly on the nearest yard line" mantra at

the start of a series. So, if it is not at least ten yards ahead of that, no need to measure. Or, if it IS past, or touching the line ten yards downfield, it is a first down, again, no need to measure.

In other words, the only way they screw it up now is by intentionally spotting it wrong, which still goes on, A LOT. They will back it up a foot or more from where the player actually went down, almost routinely.

Did I mention Zebras are inept?

Running clock, no 1st down measurements, adding 10 commercials and that's the way you do it on the ESecPN.

How many St Jude Childrens Hospital Commercials are needed to get the message through. I wonder if those are paid ads or if they are charity when the network can’t sell the spot. I bet I have seen the St Jude ad over fifty times in the last three days. Great cause but wow that is a lot of commercials for a non-profit.
