how? if he wants a shot at the NFL,
Jan 8, 2011, 5:01 PM
|

this is the best time for him to leave. Next year he will be buried on the depth chart an will have no stats to show. NFL teams are more likely to give him a shot this year.
He can always come back for education. The only downside is that his school will not be paid for. But Most beople have loans to pay back anyways.

I know that education we've been paying for will be far better serving than what he'll achieve on the next level at this point in time. Especially with the constant looming strike.

get drafted--- not sure he improves his status with another year honestly but it doesn't help us that he is leaving--- Jamie took a lot of heat but he had some awesome plays as well-- the catch at Auburn, the shovel pass at Auburn; the whole game at FSU including the hurdle; the whole game at WF; he's a good blocker, and can be a good special teams player(KO cov/think he's had a couple of punt blocks in his career). He, like the entire offense, could have done a lot better had we had a passing game to take the pressure off the run.

Dabo was the ONLY reason they came back...and both of them would have been high picks. All in all, I'd say Dabo does quite well holding his talent.

The ONLY way this kid makes it in the NFL is as a tight end. He's NOT a running back! I know he has delusions of being one, but he's simply not. Twinkle toes don't make it in the NFL. On the other hand, he's got great hands and has a tight end's build....That's his only hope. I won't miss him..I didn't like his signing day announcement and didn't like the fact that he fumbled the first play from scrimmage against Bama....A healthy Ellington and hopefully Bellamy will make a much better backfield duo anyway....Jamie, we hardly knew ye...Good luck.

Good luck - the best position would have been fullback where he could catch 4-5 out of the backfield on screens. I think this is a bad move on Jamie's part but it may help Lane commit. Maybe he see's the writing on the wall with Bellamy/lane/ellington most likely better talent. It would have been best for him to work at FB in 2011 at CU. Come back & get your degree after NFL

Thanks for trying to pick up where Andre got hurt. Harper, you matured a lot this season, and I wish you well, but I don't know who is telling you to go pro. Unless you get seriously injured, all you can do is help your stock by staying around.

Someone is giving him some bad advice. Harper has gotten better in the past year but has never lived up to his hype. He started the last several games only because a recuit with much less hype got injured. Jamie is a 2nd string RB at Clemson, and he should realise that and leave the NFL to poeple with real potential. Next year he may have greatly improved and have a shot, but he will not be drafted this spring. No team will take a chance on him with his fumble problem and slow speed. Harper did OK this year but did not exactly blow people away. he needs to rethink this.

So the guy didn't quite live up to his potential. The kid is what 20/21? Give him a break. He chose Clemson over virtually every school in the country. Hard to believe most of these posts are so disrespectful such as "dont let the door hit you on the way out" etc...Thats just classless. Seriously, show the guy a little more respect - he deserves that. For the record I never thought he lived up to his potential however I think he has a chance to be a better NFL RB than he was a college back. He has the right combination of size/body/speed that should translate well to the League.

I feel like he is the Clemson version of Lendale White (in the NFL), Jamie has superstar talent but I feel he doesnt want to put any effort into becoming a better player. He came into Clemson as a "superstar" HS running back and he will leave as a average running back. I dont think he will turn into anything special if he gets into the NFL. He doesn't have half of the work ethic as James Davis and we have watch JD struggle in Cleveland and had to work his a$$ off to prove he is worthy of a roster spot on the Redskins.
I think Jamie has great talent but talent doesnt make you an automatic NFL player.
With all of that said Jamie must know he waont be getting much playing time next year with AE coming back and if Lane and Bellamy sign the LOI to play here i cant see Jamie being the #1 or #2 rb next season.

Best of luck to you Jamie. I hate to see you go. Your Clemson family is very proud of you. I will never forget the sight of you jumping over that FSU defender. Thanks for the memories.

I wish im the best of luck.....You can't blame the kid for a chance to get "paid". But on the other hand, he's not ready physically. I guess he's looking at it, like. "They can't teach me anything else". I hope he doesn't get talked into staying. Because if he comes back next year, his heart wont be in the right place. Kinda like KP this year. I wish him well, and hope it works out for him

Wish the guy luck. The bitterness here is palpable. Who knows what he can accomplish?
And get used to it. As we continue to rise and sign stud recruits, this will happen more and more.

I disagree...

I think that Bellamy has the speed and explosiveness that we want; but not the strength, blocking ability, and other intangibles that seem to be necessary for an immediate, many play RB in college. I'd think that he would be utilized on special teams and special situations in his freshman year. I think that if we counted on him immediately to play 15-20 plays per game, he would probably be injured more than anyone desires...reducing his effectiveness. I do not think that he will be redshirted, but 2nd team RB right out of HS is a significant challenge. Plus, let's get him signed first...

You have a short memory. James Davis was second string straight out of gate and did just fine. By the end of his freshman year he was clearly our best RB. If Bellamy is what people build him up to be then he will make an immediate impact.
I'll admit, I laughed out loud when I saw this article. Harper has never come close to his recruiting hype. James Davis is struggling to crack the roster on NFL teams and he was a WAY better RB than Harper at Clemson. I can't see how he even gets drafted or makes a roster. He could make a practice squad if he's willing to change positions; he could be come a TE or receiver since he does have really good hands. That's his only positive.

Shouldn't this read UFL or CFL???
No chance Harper makes an NFL roster. Kid's ego is bigger than Lake Hartwell....
Good luck Jamie...with the Argos.

Watched NFL avidly for nearly 40 years. A break out game or two in college doesn't make you ready - especialy on offense. Good luck with that...

the NFL sees potential and coach him properly into being a good back. Clemson coaches for the past 10 have not coached our running game properly, and we've had some great backs. Spillar and Ellington survive on raw talent and make things happen behind poorly coached lines. I don't care who you are, whether you are Ingram, Richardson, or James, if you don't have a good O-Line you are behind the 8-ball.
I hope the kid makes it. I love pointing to NFL players and saying, "He played for Clemson!" However, I've said this before (and it's certainly up for scrutiny), Clemson has halted a lot of potential NFL prospects because they were so poorly coached.

I wish I had a video of him "tip-toeing" out of bounds at the bowl game and standing there and "not" blocking anyone on the return team 5 times in a row. He quit way before this decision.
