His family never left. His kids are in HS in Columbia and he was coaching in Atlanta trying to make it work. He promised his daughter he’d be there in Columbia for her senior year.

Well, if he had made the promise to his daughter, seems he would have left at the end of last season (I read his daughter is currently a senior...don't know this for a fact).

Instead, he starts spring practice with his team and resigns. Georgia State has postponed their spring practice and spring game as they start looking for a head coach

"This was not a professional move, but a personal move," Elliott told ESPN. "We've made it work for seven years with my family still living in Columbia, and I even thought about not coaching this year. I had promised my daughter that I would be there for her senior year of high school and when this opportunity came up to go back to South Carolina and coach again, it was something I couldn't pass up. I've always loved South Carolina."

Why would he leave his family in Columbia unattended?

Also, I’ll always appreciate Elliott because he was responsible for the infamous chicken anus helmets and their glorious loss to The Citadel.
