He’s on a 6-year contract with LA. Still doing Freddie things. I remember learning about how the whole contract process went with the Braves though. I think it was about his agent just not agreeing to the amount of money and maybe not telling Freddie. I’m not sure. But I know he was frustrated about it and his emotion was obvious in his 1st game back in ATL last season.
Do y’all think he will eventually return? Also Matt Olsen has turned out way better than I imagined of him, so the 1st base situation would be a roadblock. Just want to see Freddie back at some point. One of my favorite players ever for them.

Well it’s working during this period of time, and kind of always has. I mean look at the last 20 years of their franchise. A lot of 80+ win seasons with a much smaller portion of mediocre years. Their payroll is top-10. I guess it’s because they manage it so well.
Dansby may have not appeared as valuable as he might have wanted from the Braves, but it seems like playing for Atlanta brings out the best of players. Olsen’s always been pretty good, but he’s definitely gotten better as a player in ATL. Michael Harris being a top CF in the league in his 2nd year. It’s a really good system they got going.

Yeah. As you said though the overall amount of time players are spending in one place is not as long as it used to. It’s really not about baseball, but rather a whole sports transformation. You saw it start in the NBA with Lebron and the Durant. Also NFL and now even college sports with transferring. Maybe I’m seeing something that’s not actually real, buts it’s plausible.
Braves are going to need another SS sooner than later though. Arcia’s days are numbered with his time in the league in my opinion. Hopefully they’ve got a couple studs in Gwinnett or Mississippi.

I mean we’ll see. He could end up being the guy. My thinking is just about his natural position. It hasn’t always been SS for him.
In 2022 he played at 2nd when he first came up and played 40 games with 4 errors. He played 2 games in 2022 at SS. He’s been down in the system playing SS getting more experience.
In 2023, he’s got 5 games so far at SS and 1 error. We’ll see. Got to believe in what the Braves are doing with the young guys.

He played second last season because Ozzie and later Arcia were injured. He’s been a SS all through the system. Just not exactly known for his glove. He’s a big time hitting prospect that hardly ever strikes out. I’d like to see him change to LF.

I agree that would maybe work out. Plus, somethings got to be done about Ozuna. He’s just outplayed his good days, and is looking now like a liability at the plate and sometimes in the OF.
He’s 4-47 this year.

It may not solely be a tight fisted front office it may also be a pretty good farm system. They always seem to bring up really good young players every year as well.

to guys near the end of their careers. It's probably the biggest mistake a GM can make in a salary cap league. Big market baseball franchises have historically been able to get away with it since there was no cap for a long time, and now only a quasi-cap, but it's still a good way to waste alot of money.

I don’t see him returning to the Braves especially if Matt Olson who is 4 or 5 years younger than Freddie Freeman continues to produce at such a high level. I miss Freeman but the Braves hit a grand slam when they got Matt Olson.
I do wonder if the will Braves end up with regrets by not resigning DS and having to spend much more money to get a quality SS. Dansby Swanson wanted to stay in Atlanta. He made it clear by advising the Braves front office he was willing to take less money to stay in Atlanta. According to reliable sources DS would have taken much less $$$$$ than the offer by the Cubby’s and his original demand of $166 million dollars. In fact I read where Dansby Swanson had submitted a reduced offer from his original demand of $166 million to stay with the Braves.
IMO the Braves will eventually regret not resigning Dansby Swanson. Grissom can hit but he just does not have the skills to play shortstop at the MLB level.
Go Braves!!!

Two points on FF and DS

I recall Chipper discussing Freeman's negotiations and desire to stay with the Braves. Essentially, Chipper told Freddie 'You're doing it wrong and you're going to mess up'. Others have alluded to Freeman's agent and that may be in the mix somewhere as clearly Freeman was unhappy for the first part of last year. It's likely water under the bridge now...he is home.
Regarding DS, he could be uber maddening at times. He was the Jerry Reed song in the flesh! "When your're hot, you're hot and when you're not, you're not." I'd have liked him staying, but he also seemed to have a fondness for Chicago via his grandfather...and perhaps he wanted a change and the $$.
As a long-time Braves fan, it's quite remarkable how they manage to pull that club together and keep it humming along...despite the plethora of injuries. My personal suspicion is coaching is stellar...but that's just me.
