1) Head to head 2) Same record against a stronger schedule 3) Better wins
You have to inject the subjective eye test to even make this a conversation. What a crock of an argument.

"Paradox" must be the term for winning on the field
Nov 16, 2016, 1:26 PM
|
|
In the participation trophy world.
Look @ OSU last year. They were a very good team, very good athletes. But they lost the game that they couldn't afford to lose & other teams in the rankings had better opportunities to finish ahead of them. Same case for UL. They lost to us & barring disaster these next 2-3 weeks, gonna be difficult to overcome that. & teams ahead of them (& some behind them) will have better opportunities - better wins, chance @ conference titles, etc. & end of the day, 1 dynamic player & video game #'s can only get you so far if you don't win the games you need to win & you don't have enough meat on the schedule to help you out.

Some people still think deciding it on the field isn't as good as subjective opinions. What a flawed way to approach things.

Kellerman's logic is ridiculous because although Louisville has the "better" loss that loss was to the team you are comparing them too. Head to head wins out 100% of the time when both teams have the same number of losses

You don't get into "Better loss" vs "better wins" if two teams played each other and have the same record.
There is no asterisk by the W we earned on that field.
Kellerman is, frankly, either an idiot or (more likely) simply trying to stir chaos for ratings.

can so easily go over an analyst's head. It shouldn't be forgotten too that we are 3-0 vs top 25 to their 1-1. And that is a paradox that we are over Louisville? The paradox, clever little Kellerman, would be if Louisville was ranked ahead of us, after having lost to us. Calling them the better team after having lost is ridiculous.
Didn't work for us in January, did it?

Another analyst using some bad logic to try and justify putting Louisville over Clemson. Why even play the game anymore if head to head does not matter?
Also anyone looking at the loss as justification is not understanding how the Committee works. It only comes into play if you have similar teams with the same loss. The loss is to us. Nothing else matters at that point. And even the chairman saying last night that head to head is why we did what we did should point that we are gonna be ahead of them the rest of way assuming we win out.

Any system of ranking teams that literally ignores head-to-
Nov 16, 2016, 1:44 PM

head results has no place in sports.
All of sport is based on the concept that the most objective way to prove which team is better is to put them on the same field at the same time. That should trump any argument.
42-36. End of story.

and that WIN was over them. It really isn't all that hard.
Basically the committee has said that as long as we have 1 loss, we can't fall below a team we beat (and have better wins, overall resume etc)

Pitt might be unranked, but they have a win over top 10 Penn State as well. They also have a 7 point loss on the road against current #11 Oklahoma State, a 1 point loss on the road against UNC who has been in the top 25 off and on for most of the season of the season, and a 3 point loss to VT who has also been in the top 25 off and on for most of the season. The only real bad mark for Pitt was the blowout loss to Miami. You could honestly argue that if Pitt had the same schedule as Louisville that they would be anywhere between 8-2 and 10-0. I say 10-0 since they did actually beat Clemson of course. My main point is that Pitt would be ranked as well with Louisville's schedule, and it's not the horrible loss that many want to make it out to be.

Without turnovers, that game is a blowout. Clemson D shut Jackson down and gave him 5 extra chances to get it done.

For E$PN it is easy to figure. Louisville is numerically a larger school and in a position to reach a larger potential audience. Clemson has always been a small school with a relatively small number of graduates although we do fill stadiums and travel. It's the same reason TAMU and MO was added to SEC. Numbers. Not to be taken seriously. But we may always be at a numerical (aka Ratings) disadvantage.

A paradox is ranking teams ahead of you that you beat head to head, a team that lost to Iowa with wins over no one with a pulse and one their Quality wins was Penn St that lost to Pitt, and a team that lost to Penn St... oh wait that's a triadox!
