Does Dabo ever leave now?

Alabama is the job everybody always said Dabo would leave for if given the opportunity. Seems like the offer was there from the tide. Does he just coach at Clemson and then just ride off into the sunset or do y'all think he would go somewhere else. I personally think he’s going to be a tiger for as long as he’s coaching.

Go Tigers!

1) I always thought he wasn't ready yet, still more to do
2) I didn't think he wanted to be the guy right after
3) My thought all along is we would be in trouble when the 1st hire flames out in 3 years.

#3 is the answer. No way to follow saban. In 2-3 years we will really have to worry about Dabo heading to A.

I'd say that depends upon Clemson's success over that period. Gotta do better than 9-4 if he wants to go to Bama...

I think a lot will depend on our board and administration. There will be heavy investment needed in this arms race to keep Clemson relevant and competing for championships and that will require tough choices and sacrifices from other programs.

Navigating these difficult waters will not be an easy journey for all involved.

Which other programs are you referring to? Keep in mind Title 9. An influx of $$$ is needed to keep up with NIL at other schools. The transfer portal must be used to fill gaps. It might require hiring another individual responsible for one or both. Something has to improve regarding TV money.

Not speaking exclusively about NIL. I'm talking about stadium and other facility upgrades that can be in the hundreds of millions of dollars like other top programs are investing. People are already complaining about how much more we spend on football than other programs, but with the kind of money being invested to keep up, we are going to have to figure that piece out if we want to remain competitive. And, with the additional challenge of not drawing the kind of media revenues that others are drawing, some really tough decisions are going to have to be made.

Yes, he would be more likely in 2 years than now if Kalen fails and Clemson keeps stalling out.

It seems that college coaching has become much more stressful with the Portal and NIL $. Boosters lose patience quickly. They point to other schools who have “exploited” both and say why not here and why not now. Whereas the general rule was to give a coach 4-5 years, I think that it will be more like 2-3 years. If you already have a bunch of $$ in the bank and 2 nattys for the mantle, how much of this crap do you tolerate? It seems that it will eat coaches alive.

Do you have a link where he threatened to leave? Gonna have to spin something pretty hard to get to that one.

I never saw any reports that Dabo had interviewed or been offered by Alabama.

It never seemed like Alabama was very interested in him, but there can obviously be a lot happening behind the scenes we never hear about.

Bama would never let Dabo build the kind of football program Dabo wants.

Paw journey, super high graduation rates?
Bama doesn’t want to bother with that. I think these things mean something to Dabo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Alabama actually graduates a high percentage of their football players.

Would he ever leave now? Well, there is precedent in the coaching ranks. I posted on another thread that UNC wanted Roy Williams to come home and replace the retiring Dean Smith. Roy decline. Matt Doherty then stunk it up and UNC called Roy a second time and he came home. Roy got to be the savior rather than the guy following the legend. Would Dabo do the same? No idea but it would be easier to follow a guy who stinks it up if he indeed does. I think the new coach will be successful though.

I think Dabo will not leave until he gets us back to the upper echelon of college football.

If he wins 1 more natty at Clemson he will retire here. If it's 5 years down the road and it hasn't happened and Bama offers again he will go.

Honestly…. I don’t think so. His legacy is important to him and family and the Clemson Family. I believe he’s a Clemson man through and through, I might be wrong, but I believe Dabo will be here until he retires or becomes next AD
