All this article says is that he is going to graduate in December. I don't see anything that indicates a definitive decision. I read another article the week before the Syracuse game where the reporter asked him about his future and he said he had not given it any thought and was just focused on the game ahead, his teammates, his coaches, and getting better as a QB.
I guess I don't really see your point or understand why you think it has already been decided.

Just that he has goals and aspirations. It’s up to him to reach them. Well if those goals were to leave for the NFL, ain’t happening. Now you see why he would not post the article. LOL. You’re wrong BBO, it doesn’t say anything! Dead horse? What?

I am not going to be satisfied we are the best we can be with him starting behind center. I can't help that, it's just how I feel.
I do not believe our best QB is on the field because that means that Cade is a worse quarterback than DJ. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT TO BE TRUE!
Maybe in Cade started and fell on his face sometimes after halftime, maybe. Prob not.

What has Cade actually done to make you think he is a better QB? He definitely has not impressed me at all. I think the game is moving too fast for him right now. Maybe he will be a stud given time. But he is no where ready to be our starting QB.

When people bring up DJU and criticize w/o bringing up archaic play-calling and lack of WR separation and spotty OL play; "I can't help but SMDH"!
A lot is DJU - for sure! But, the offense looking anemic at times is not on him 100% at all: if you know football a little bit.
Something as simple as WR - running the wrong routes. Or never running to open grass on "option routes" or an OL not getting DL hands down on a slant, etc. are all things, laymen will just dump on the QB and shouldn't.

We would likely be better off with DJ on the team next season in terms of having two winnable QB's with another 5-star freshman in Vizzina in the mix. Football's a tough game. Injuries happen. The deeper the better at all positions.

Would like for DJ to move on and not run the risk of either Klubnik or Vizzina moving on instead. Next year will be time for the offense to shake things up a bit and breathe some new life into the situation. Just seems like the best fit is for DJ and this program to part ways once this season concludes. Wish him the best.

QB who has been a two year starter for us decide to return.
If the other QBs are better, they will beat him out. And if they don’t beat him out, then we should be thankful that we don’t have a backup starting.

Good Question!
Nov 15, 2022, 6:03 PM
|
|
I am answering this before I read the responses.
Not sure if people appreciate this question or not OP > but it is a good one "like it or not"!
The oil money out in Texas will be screaming at Cade to "come on back home" and waving green hands while doing it. Is Cade going to say, "oh no thank you, I'll wait another year on the bench"?
I don't know!
From a roster management standpoint - "it's a tough call either way"! You don't want to blow your California connection. But, you don't want to blow your Texas connection either! H.S. coaches have long memories and even if he wasn't their kid; they remember how a kid they knew/know of was treated. I wouldn't want to make the call. Thank goodness we have Dabo. I think he will make the best call for the team!

There has been a lot of discussion about what DJ will do after this year and a lot of passion around what fans want to see him do. I am curious about what others think about this.
I think your question is a valid one, despite some posters continuing to vehemently state that DJ will not return next season. Despite several statements referenced that implied that both DJ and Dabo indicated he would not be back next year, I've read nothing that states categorically that he won't return. Furthermore, even if either one of them stated flat out that he wouldn't return, that doesn't necessarily mean neither could change their minds. My response is intended to accomplish two things. First, to support you in that your question is a valid one. Second, my response will try to answer your original question of whether it would be better or worse if DJ was to return.
First, I believe your question is very valid. I do believe both DJ and Dabo believed at the start of the season that he would move on after the season. They both were sure that he (and the Tigers) would have an outstanding season, and that he would be a top QB with multiple Pro teams chasing him to join their ranks after the season. Despite having a much better season than last year, both he and the Tigers are not widely respected for what they accomplished. I, myself, respect what he and the Tigers have accomplished this year. They've worked very hard in the pre-season and during the season to return the Tigers to the CFB Playoffs. Will they? Answer is not definitive either way at this point. They're still in the hunt. But there is wide-spread doubt they will--both by the outside polls and by a large proportion of the Tiger Nation Faithful.
Why? Because: 1. The Tigers had a pitiful performance against a non-elite ND team, and more importantly, an embarrassing loss! 2. Even in their wins, their performance (both offensively and defensively) against several non-elite teams this year indicated they were no where near the Tiger teams that were led by either Watson or Lawrence during our six-year CFB Playoff run! And 3rd, our once glorified resume against highly ranked ACC rivals (NC State, Wake Forest, and Syracuse) has suffered greatly as all of them have continued to lose after losing to the Tigers!
No one is respecting the ACC or Clemson now! Our best hope for some ACC and Tiger respect is for: 1) FL St to continue to win and move up higher in the poll rankings; 2) That ND continue to win and move up the poll rankings, so our loss to them won't look so bad; 3). North Carolina continue to win and rise in the polls, and that we then crush them in a highly ranked & watched ACC Championship Game; and 4) Enough Top Ten teams lose in their regular season and/or lose in their conference championship games against their lower ranked opponents!
Despite the odds, Clemson is still in the hunt! And Dabo is often at his best when the Tigers are facing adversity! However, even if all of the above things happen, nothing guarantees that we're going to CFB Playoffs; let alone, win any games if we get there!
Now, back to your original question. Are we better off if DJ returns next year, or moves on? Personally, I don't think DJ has decided what he wants to do (whether we go to the CFB Playoffs, or not). In any case, I'm torn. 1. My preference is that he move on: whether that is to the Pro's, the Transfer Portal, or to a non-football option! I don't think he's ever going to be the elite talent we wanted him to be. Furthermore, even if I'm wrong about his potential, I'm simply tired of the constant questioning of whether he or Klubnik should be our #1 QB or not. I'm ready to move on to the competition between Klubnik and Vizzina. 2. On the other hand, I could be wrong. Maybe DJ will blossom (either in our remaining games this year, or in the 2023 season). Furthermore, maybe Klubnik would benefit from more competition with DJ in the Spring (or vice versa). Hopefully, if DJ wants to return and Dabo agrees to his return, Dabo would agree to his return only if DJ understands that the #1 QB leadership role is clearly up for grabs. And that the competition would truly be a fair competition where DJ no longer enjoy the advantages of the loyal support he previously got from Dabo and Coach Streeter! Hopefully, performance during the competition would truly be the deciding factor rather than loyalties to the incumbent #1 QB!
The status of our #1 QB is always risky, whether he is performing or not. Injuries can always take down whoever is our #1 QB! Having qualified backup QB's is a must. So, the more qualified QBs on the roster we have, the better off we'll be if injuries occur. On the other hand, I we don't want to lose either Klubnik or Vizzina, if we show too much loyalty to a non-performing DJ!
Lots of pros and cons in my opinion. Therefore, I'll let Dabo do his job and earn the high salary he's getting. I still "Trust in Dabo" no matter what my own or anybody else's opinions are !

First let me say I appreciate what DJ has done and him choosing to come to Clemson. I think it would be best for both sides if this was his last year at Clemson. Something just isn’t meshing. He started the year off well compared to last but now he’s turning the ball over way to much. Don’t know if it’s the system, lack of development, or maybe just too much pressure. We were spoiled with TB, DW, & TL at QB so we’ve seen what great QB play is and I don’t get that feeling from DJ. He’s a great person but at the end of the day that isn’t the only thing that helps win Championships.

No it isn’t the only thing but it’s way ahead of what’s in second place.
DJ will return and we will hear from Dabo and the other coaches on how much he has improved and the next thing you know ... we’re playing 2022 again and being far from a quality team. I have NO idea who the backups will be. The new kid will be here of course. I’ve already seen this movie and I didn’t like it the first time.
Go Tigers beat the canes .... badly,

I think that if he comes back, he will hold play card most of the season bc I truly believe that Cade or even true freshman Vizzina will beat him out, plus Dabo don't want to hear anymore about our QB problems!!!

Terrible for him. Good to have two good QBs. Doesn’t happen in this age of football. We would lose one.
DJ would be better going off going to a team with a coaching staff that would play to his strengths. He would thrive at an up tempo, pass happy team.
