It means more union dues for the union bosses and one of the two political parties. It means the death of college sports interest for half of the fan bases of universities that choose this path, not that Dartmouth had much interest but I think Northwestern had given this a try too?

grievance for more playing time based on seniority.....Like I said when this first happened in California, the players are going to kill the GOLDEN GOOSE...Or GOOSES, which is US. Then again. these youngsters would just as soon see an hour of Taylor, than a replay of what just happened on the field, so maybe not.

Employee is much different than independent contractor. Although that is the only proper decision. Scholarship will be taxable income annd value of benefits including health care.
This should be interesting to watch

I'm no lawyer. But, Dartmouth doesn't give athletic scholarships.

They give other financial aid, like academic scholarships.
What exactly will their taxable income be? Will it be the same for students not on athletic teams?
Are they employees with a salary of 0 dollars?
I see a whole bunch of unintended consequences coming from this ruling.

Right wing radicals are virtually non existent in then US, evidence of any right wing radicals: flimsy, mainly anecdotal, fabricated & dispersed as news by the massive propaganda machines. Capitalist radicals are referred to as libertarians. Fascism & Nazism are leftist philosophies rooted in Socialism. Although the leftist propaganda machines of the msm will eventually reverse this belief–

union if they vote to do so.
And it means someone official is saying they're employees and should be able to unionize as employees, given it's New Hampshire.
And that means the nth shoe in the galactically-huge mess that is college athletics has dropped.
Because are walk-ons employees, too? And why cant the scholly players be tested under DOL rules and classified as 1099 contractors? And is NIL income considered union payroll, and subject to dues?
What a MESS.
Either way, "student-athlete"is now a farcical appellation. It's all over but the shouting. Theyve crossed the Rubicon. The fat lady has sung. And other hackneyed colloquialisms.

The article says some players, but all. One irony jumped out at me: ivy league ultra white collar is in league with a blue collar union - the things one thinks they'd never see keep getting seen.

And another thing that's kinda fascinating is
Feb 6, 2024, 10:21 AM
|
|
by defining the basketball players as employees, the university has removed any question of whether the players are contractors under the IRS test.
So yeah, it could mean *any* financial aid the player receives to play for the university is no longer financial aid, it's just plain taxable income, while any NIL money they earn is over there under 1099 tax rules.
So now these kids are going to have to hire tax accountants to keep it all straight. And pay FICA, and SS, and Medicaid out of the proceeds.
I'm obsessing a little bit, I know. But what a fur ball!!!

other employees. Free ride is over for them. And, their scholarships should be taxable as income, along with, of course, any earnings from NIL.
I have a feeling that this, like NIL, is going to turn into something completely different than what it was originally intended to be.

What I fear from some such nonsense as this is that if a kid misbehaves so badly he is thrown from the team that will involve lawyers and a judge to decide if he was unfairly fired.
It's seems clear the NCAA is broken and no one seems to want to fix it. I believe everybody is ready for a clean slate and wants to let the NCAA die of old age.

Then they have to pay income tax, SS tax, Medicare tax, contribute to the Dartmouth pension fund and pay for employee healthcare benefits.
