Coaching hot seats...

Feb 24, 2022, 12:25 PM

Anyone have espn + insider? Do they mention Brad Brownell?

Yes, one of 6 they are watching. Nothing groundbreaking. Lamont Paris, Dennis Gates, and Bob Richey were those mentioned.

"It feels like Brad Brownell has been on the hot seat in some form for seven years, even though the Tigers made the Sweet 16 in 2018 and reached the NCAA tournament last season. Brownell also signed a contract extension in October through 2026. But the latest word coming out of Clemson is it could open, with the Tigers on a six-game losing streak and tied for last place in the ACC entering Wednesday night. New athletic director Graham Neff took over in December, but he's worked at Clemson for nearly a decade so he knows and understands the landscape. Paris and Gates could be options for this job, as well as current Furman coach Bob Richey."

The basketball HC seat at Clemson should be smoking hot, but it isn't, and that says that mediocre Basketball at Clemson still has the approval of the administration, and a lot of Clemson B-Ball fans!!!

My early prediction is Brad will not be fired if PJ Hall stays.

BB is an urban sport and other teams have natural recruiting advantages. There is no guarantee we could keep a better coach. And we have seen programs like Pitt lose "better" coaches and go from winners to losers pretty fast.

With the transfer portal and NIL, keeping our best players at a school like Clemson is going to be tough.

The game is refereed to favor teams with good offense. Brad has been able to change from a defense minded team to an offense minded team, but he needs to put it all together.

The home games this year have generally been exciting and we were generally competitive. No one wins every game in BB.

I do wish Brad learned from mistakes. IMO he cost us the UNC game. He seems to blow one every year.

Brad blows at least a few games every season. Just don't like the chances even if PJ comes back. A good AD never determines the status of a program who is coming back, butcprobably stuck again in Neff's first season.

Agreed, in general. However I think this is the exception to the rule. If Brad can't keep his best player at this point, then that is strong evidence of the program's status in the new milieu.

Interesting names mentioned. Maybe an African American Coach is the way to go for recruiting. I like Gates and Paris. Richie always will be mentioned since right up the road. I really want a coach who has at least gone to an NCAAT before. Where did they say Matt McMahon and Niko Medved were likely headed?

We have basically been average or below for 110 years. Changing coaches will do nothing to change that as even if we get a good one they wont stay. Unless we are willing to invest in the program changing the outlook there is only bad outcomes by changing coaches.

I don't understand how people can go through life with such a defeatist attitude about things. This whole 'because we've never done it means we never will' stuff is absolute hogwash. Brad has had 12 years, 12 freaking years, to show us what he can do - and it's exactly your defeatist expectation that he's delivered. It's past time for a change of leadership in basketball. I hope Neff is willing to do the right thing at season's end.

Listen to the PRESS CONFERENCE from Wake Coach Forbes after yesterday's game. I can guarantee you ACC coaches would prefer not to play the Tigers. The team is solid but young and their best bigs are injured. Collins is injured.

I think Brad thought he could coach 3 star level players and win here. I think he's changed that over the last 3 years. And recruiting already improved. Every ACC team except Dook and UVA has messages boards complaining about their coach.

I'll go out on a limb and assume they hated us more under Barnes and Purnell. Maybe we could try to find another coach that delivers at that level.

Mcmahon was mentioned for Mississippi St. Both are mentioned as mid-major coaches that could be in play generally.

Jeff Bozerello is one of ESPN's best insiders especially for College Basketball. he knows his stuff.

Regarding the name of Gates at Clevland State. he was at FSU for 10 years with Lenoard Hamilton before he took that job. He is a great recruiter and helped Hamilton really build that program.

here is more on Gates. He is a great recruiter, and also involved with the that play involving Grayson Allen when and was very classy about it like Brad Brownell is known for Clemson now.
