flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and it should have been.

Nov 7, 2014, 12:25 AM

Seems the only person who did not think so was the ####### replay guy

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thank you Garry Peters for calling out the refs...

Nov 7, 2014, 12:25 AM

it's about d@mn time somebody from Clemson called out the refs.

Unfortunately Dabo is not free to speak his mind about the refs lest he get fined. It's a joke. They are untouchable. Somebody needs to give the refs "the business."

Dabo actually came pretty close in his presser.

and now we will be without Peters for the GT game

Re: and now we will be without Peters for the GT game

There is a big drop off in the secondary without Smiths senior leadership. That was a terrible call. He was clearly in the pads and did everything possible to move his head so it was not leading with the helmet. I urge anyone and everyone to voice their opinions to the commissioner etc. There was several questionable calls but the calls were definitely slanted against CU!

And you think the commissioner gives a fat rat's #### about a bad call on Clemson? Really?? I would agree with you, if Swoffy weren't the dude.

No, we will have Peters, but Robert Smith has been temporarily emasculated.

Peters had a stiff and solid argument, I'm sure it was a hard sell though. Too bad we couldn't come to a different agreement. I wonder if Peters found out if the call would stick for the next game making Smith suspended for the first half of the game.

Not sure of the rules. Can officials overturn a suspension

Nov 7, 2014, 12:29 AM

After it was confirmed on the field? For sure not targeting on that call.

Yes, conference officials have the power to either reduce game suspensions or add additional penalties if they deem it appropriate after the game.

Re: Not sure of the rules. Can officials overturn a suspension

Nov 7, 2014, 8:03 AM

IMO, Dabo needs to register an official complaint on that call. Smith should be reinstated, the ref on the field should be suspended a half game instead of Smith, and the official in the replay booth should be FIRED. He's an incompetent idiot for confirming that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't fault the official on the field

Nov 7, 2014, 12:52 PM

They are taught to call the targeting penalty on anything that's close (particularly now that they have the ability to even overturn the 15 yard penalty) and let the replay official decide whether it is or isn't. I can see how during live action, and possibly from his angle, that the field official may have thought it was targeting. The replay official however should be suspended for at least a game and retrained on the targeting rule.

Yes they can and they will. They did the same thing to a player from Tenn this season. It was overturned and he was allowed to play the entire game.

Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down

Nov 7, 2014, 12:30 AM

yet again, put them in scoring position, and on a worse night, could have also cost the team the game.

Re: Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down

Nov 7, 2014, 12:37 AM

The craziest part is that even if it was overturned, Wake would still have gotten the penalty yardage and a first down. That makes zero sense. That rule must change.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down

Nov 7, 2014, 12:43 AM

The rule did change if it's overturned the penalty is called back as well as the player can come back the changed the rule this year after complaints last year

Re: Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down

Nov 7, 2014, 12:47 AM

Didn't know that. That's good news...but not for Smith. Only way to review that is to watch it at full speed. That was a clean hit. It's football for goodness sake.

Re: Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down

Nov 7, 2014, 12:53 AM

Yea I def agree I Forsure thought they would overturn it he hit the wake player right in the chest with his shoulder but I swear they didn't throw the flag til the wake player didn't get up just bc he knocked him out the game doesn't mean it was a dirt hit

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down

Nov 7, 2014, 4:42 AM

Is there a possibility that the play stood because Smith left his feet, rather than it having anything to do with where he hit? Otherwise, it was a clean hit.

Nov 7, 2014, 8:08 AM [ in reply to Re: Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down ]

No it wouldn't. That rule changed. If it's overturned the penalty goes away. Saw it earlier this year.

If I'm not mistaken, rule has changed and if it is overturned the yardage and 1st down are also taken back.

Re: Clemson should get

Nov 7, 2014, 1:39 AM [ in reply to Should be overturned. That call gave them another first down ]

An apology from the ACC office, not just on that call, but on several other pass interference calls on Peters. That apology probably won't ever happen, because its the ACC. Something needs to be said or done by Clemson to address the obvious jobbing that happened tonight. I know sections 12 and 13 were very vocal in their displeasure. It was arguably worse than a Ron C officiated game.

I've been wrong two times, but this isn't one of them.

This call and the PI on Peters should be used for training

Nov 7, 2014, 8:08 AM

as what not to call. No way in the world that was targeting and that PI on Peters was awful. So the receiver can run straight at the defender, make no effort to go around or away and the QB can throw it 15 yards beyond and get a PI call? Thats BS. I might, repeat MIGHT be able to understand it if the ref called holding on Peters, but not PI.

These officials should miss out on their next assignment and bring up someone from a high school league to do better.

Very poorly called game, period. The Targeting call was just the apex of crappy calls. Officials were as incompetent as Ron Cherry, and I never thought I'd say that.
