shouldn't you have to prove that you are eligible to vote before actually voting? I mean that doesn't sound too ####### extreme to me. Otherwise, eligible voters will have their votes cancelled by people who shouldn't be voting. (not to mention voting machines and fake ballots)

I think you should have to be eligible to vote - but I do NOT think we should make it one bit harder than absolutely necessary to do that.
And I think the majority of these Republican measures are intended to do just that - make it harder.

I mean even if what you say was true, which it isn't, why do you think black folks aren't capable of it?

“ The bill would also eliminate early voting on Sundays, which is when Black churches traditionally hold "Souls to the Polls" events to bring parishioners to vote after church service.”
Can you explain why early voting on Sundays is an issue of election security?

According to the Foundation Group, which provides state and federal compliance service for nonprofits, the following restrictions apply for 501c3 organizations.
“ 501(c)(3) organizations are highly regulated entities. Strict rules apply to both the activities and the governance of these organizations. No part of the activities or the net earnings can unfairly benefit any director, officer, or any private individual.
In addition, all assets are permanently dedicated to a charitable purpose. In the event that a 501(c)(3) organization must cease operations, all assets remaining after debts are paid must be distributed for a charitable purpose.
Further, lobbying, propaganda or other legislative activity must be kept relatively insubstantial5. Intervention in political campaigns or the endorsement/anti-endorsement of candidates for public office is strictly prohibited.”
These organizations are not forbidden from “participating in politics” as a whole, but their participation is limited. It doesn’t seem like these limitations would include taking church members to the polls, but maybe you know something I don’t.
As a whole, I don’t mind laws passed to ensure election integrity. But some of these Georgia laws serve no other purpose than making it more difficult to vote without actually making elections more secure.

Tom,
I think if you will look again, at no time did I mention black people. So why did you ??
I want to encourage ALL people to vote - to be a part of the process - to have a greater stake in what is going on in OUR country. I was happy to see record voter turnout this year - on both sides of the spectrum.
Technology allows Americans to register and vote more easily than before and we should move forward with that bar some actual evidence that these methods cannot be trusted. Many states have been using early voting and mail-in voting for years now with no evidence that these methods affect vote integrity, so why not use them to invite more people into the process.

Keowee, why bring race into this ? I merely want more Americans to be able to vote - and more easily. I don't care what color they are. Do you ?

It's all about race, and how requiring voters to show ID is apparently racist.
"Republicans are doing this because they think they can gain an electoral advantage from making it harder for Black, brown and young voters to participate in the process"
"A bill that is going to require a particular kind of voter ID typically burdens voters of color. Voters of color tend not to have whatever the required voter ID is in higher numbers than white voters"

I could envision a pop-up on Instagram where you could vote. (not good) I don't think we want anyone voting who is basing their vote on who the cast of Floribama Shore told them to vote for.
I used to take 1/2 day off of work to go vote. (Now, I get to the polls at 6:30AM.) You know - at least a LITTLE sacrifice is involved...

That would be interesting to see. I guess people now make it a good excuse to argue for some time off work to go and vote.

Do way of the belief that we actually have to have “parties”! That idea basically divides the country before we even elect a common leader leader

Your first sentence is very true. I do not want to make it easier for everyone to vote. I want legal , informed, motivated people of both parties voting. I do not want people who have no clue on the issues voting for the person some celebrity tells them to vote for.

Wow. I knew this was a BS article the minute they started calling these restrictions RACIST!
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it kind of racist to say that black or brown people are not self sufficient enough to get an ID? It’s really not that hard. I for one have full confidence that black and brown people have the competence to attain an ID. Are gas stations racist because they check for ID to buy alcohol and tobacco?
