He is paid by Beats, Tom Brady talent business, Gatorade, and multiple boosters according to article I read.
I will say that I have not watched him until last night but he can throw a pretty pass. He has the trust of the team but man this is not the college football that I fell in love with.
While I am ok with kids making money but this is not what most people thought when NIL was being pushed. I think people thought kids would make enough to live better, maybe put some funds in the bank but not life changing money and a free for all free agency to pay "student athletes" millions to play for a school.
Times have changed and I am not a fan of the new pro student plans.

Didn’t see Shipley stick his fingers thru an opposing player’s face mask attempting to gouge his eyes, didn’t see #1 get in other team’s face after almost every single play. I didn’t like #1’s behavior at all but I’m sure Dabo will handle it the right way and not continue to encourage it at every chance like “neon.”

NIL was not anything the NCAA or coaches wanted. It was never even up for discussion in the “court of public opinion”.
It started with the real courts. Remember how they tried to pull the EA video game off of market to try and fend off this whole BS that was mandated by the courts?

So you seriously thought college players would get paid millions? I don't think that was the normal thought process. It's not just a couple but many are making tons to include Rattler that is making over $1mil.

I think most people expected money for signatures, signed jerseys, maybe commercials, but an opportunity to earn money. Not a free for all to give millions to a 5* just because 24/7 ranks him that high and surely not buying players from other teams. This is not what I envisioned or maybe I just hoped it wouldn't become the wild west. Definitely didn't want the sport I love ruined but it's already not nearly what it was just 4yrs ago and headed deeper in this path.

Depends if you consider all the free meals and an education not getting paid. With Kavanaugh’s take we should not give them the paid education, but yet pay them and have them pay for their education.

And he's right. Funny how most of the guys complaining about NIL are supposed free market guys in every other aspect of life. These schools and the NCAA make millions and have for a long time. I'm sure if any of them had a kid who was a sports phenom they wouldn't have a problem with State Farm or ATT giving their kid a million bucks to do a ad.

It is inevitable. Everyone knew it was coming. The supply and demand for talent dictates the endgame. Players will make way more than coaches. What will be interesting is how the difference in fan engagement from the NFL plays out. There is potentially more money in college football than there is in the NFL, in my estimation. We will start seeing a lot more 25+ year old guys still in CFB. The NCAA will get held to account for age discrimination if they don't expand eligibility. The players will unionize. It is going to be ugly.

Programs were spending tens of millions on fancy facilities to lure recruits. Head coaches making 10mil per year, coordinators 1-2 mil per year.
With that kind of money involved, i think it was inevitable that large amounts would make it to the players once there was a legitimate (ish) way to do so.

but I've been deadset against all this NIL, transfer rule horsemanure from the outset. I haven't changed my opinion.
I became convinced that one of the big problems we had was team disfunction upon DJU's arrival with NIL deals in his back pocket. There was IMO a fatal disconnect between him and many on our squads, which I don't hold DJ responsible for, but rather the system. Our staff didn't know how to recognize and take strident steps to correct it. That thinking was based on my own experience dealing with 18-20 year-olds in the Army, most of whom had to have discipline and attitude adjustments constantly addressed.
The Pro's are simply different, because those men participate in and expect money to flow. Most of the collegiate types know they'll never make it upstairs, so it's easy to understand bitterness and envy among their ranks over the select few enjoying a money train.
The Courts flubbed the issue over the NIL, simply put. They did not understand nor forsee eventual major issues, and hence, why I believe the justices were blatantly wrong. The NCAA itself made the boneheaded, patently stupid changes to the transfer rules, which they called "making it more student-athlete" friendly. And the flood gates opened from a gross lack of foresight by the NCAA.

I agree 100%! I got a bunch of TDs one night when I said DJU was not humble and he was more worried about sucking on his protein shake and combing his hair during the interview. If I was a player sitting there sweaty after a loss in an interview watching him acting like the shake was more important than the loss while making money, I surely would have a little disdain for the attitude.
But many didn't agree with my take and now many probably feel more inclined to feel the same.
There is a proposal to level off the NIL and to guarantee all players a minimal but that won't stop the envy if a DL makes $50k and a WR makes $1mil.

college education these kids are receiving. It is not even mentioned as a benefit. As anyone who is burdened down with student loans if having it paid for would not have been a BIG deal for them.
I would love to see legislation that NIL funds are put into escrow accounts, with only a modest monthly stipend taken out, until after graduation (or end of college eligibility, probably vast amount of the big NIL guys will never graduate.)

Maybe it's up to the 18-20 year old MAN to make good decisions. Bryce Young got more money than DJU as did/does Caleb Williams and yet they are all in for their teams.
I'm old fashioned in the sense that once you graduate high school I consider you to be a man and I don't call college students kids. We've made them kids by coddling them and treating them like babies. I've made money (started poor) and I've seen other people make money and the thing I've learned is money doesn't change you it just magnifies whatever good or bad character traits you have.

Agree with everything you said.
Would also add that the money sours the fans on the kids. Before we might see kids struggle early and enjoy watching them improve. But now with the money they make, the tolerance for mistakes and poor play is not there. The old convention that it was ok to boo at an NFL game but not a college game because they're just kids.....that mindset changes when you're talking about a 17 year old millionaire acting awful.

If people did not think "this" is what football is about, they did not understand NIL. Stars, whether real or growing, are the ones that get NIL deals and that is what it is all about. Players with NIL deals play the games, pay the taxes and bring publicity to their schools and of course, themselves.

I don't get the ideological hate for NIL and the transfer portal, especially if you are a pro free market capitalist.
The scholarships are not 4 year contracts. They are year to year and can be pulled at any time by the institution. Some 4 year guarantees exist but there is nothing that says the school can't pull the scholarship for any reason.
How many of us have turned down a raise?
How many of us haven't taken a job we thought was better at another company?
As a society, why are we so hell bent on limiting the freedoms offered to collegiate athletes that we expect as human beings working day to day?
Why are we willing to hand out institutional control that we wouldn't want our own bosses or companies to have?
I am sincerely asking for somebody to explain it too me without tossing around personal insults. Help me understand. Why is the current landscape so bad?
