Cade needs to play more like Penix and less like DW4

Penix wasn't very good last night by his standards, but Cade could learn a lot from how he plays. I marveled at how quickly and decisively Penix got off his first read and went to his 2nd. We just didn't see a lot of that from Cade. When his first read gets taken away, he kind of panics, holds the ball too long and often runs himself into sacks trying to make Watson type magic plays off ######. Watson was able to get away with that because he was elite at it. Cade isn't close to being at that level when things break down. He can compensate though, by processing quicker and knowing where to go when his first read isn't available. Hopefully, they'll be growth in this part of his game next year. He's going to need it vs UGA's defense in game 1.

Penix (23) is also 3 years older than Cade and has played in six seasons and started in five.
Cade (20) has played 2 seasons and been a starter in one.
If Cade (somehow) plays for 2 more seasons he will be better than Penix.

That's an easy excuse to use in order to prop cade up. He was good as a freshman until he got hurt.
So I'm not sure cade will. He was pretty good at Indiana too. Had almost 10 yards per catch in his sophomore season. A 3-9 team. He's torn his acl twice? Or maybe a shoulder and acl. Either way, this was only his 3rd full season.

Most QBs of the elite teams are experienced much more than a true sophomore. QBs most normally take time to develop. Typically by year 3 (jr) the game slows down and the QB is able to see the field and process the route tree. Penix has GREAT field vision and usually puts it on the money.
I do think the 2nd year with Riley and Cade coming back as an experienced Junior, we will see much improvement in the offense.
Guys like Deshaun and Trevor seem to cloud the expectations of a typical QB for a lot of folks.

Michigan pass rush compromised his ability to wait till the long receiver got open...we h a ve the same ability...we praised Wash but they won in a no D league...for all of ESPN manipulation to get more exciting offense D still won the...by the forth quarter Penix did not want to be there..just slinging the ball...kinda reminds me of Kellen Mond...old aggie QB...with our tall DEx coming we could be murder on QBs!

First read too. Penix snaps it quickly to the tunnel and wr screens. I eluded to that under another thread. Gets it to the players quick before the D can react to the ball. Sure is nice to have a 2nd and 2 instead of 2nd and 6.

Cade wasn't even at Clemson with TLaw .
yes Penix threw it fast . but he couldn't improvise well at all... he is also very old CFB playing time wise compared to Cade
all that said
i'd take Cade as is all day
with AR8, TJ Moore, JSapp, and Wesco . CK2 is about to shine ✨

Cade could stay at Clemson for 10 years and he will never touch Penix for ability, arm strength, touch or comfort in the pocket. Washington was just a little better than average team - Penix made them Pac 12 champions and with a little luck and less drops - nCAA champions.

He seemed more willing to get that extra yard or two at the end of a run. Needs to add some muscle mass in the off-season. We keep hearing he has good speed but he needs to develop in the running game. He will be carrying it about 9-10 times a game if Riley sticks to his normal rate since TCU.

Absolutely, when Cade becomes confident and relaxed at running our offense, he will look like the best QB ever. His time to shine will be incredible because of the challenges he’s had already.
When our OL improves a lot Cade will be a dangerous weapon with his ability run when they cover and throw when their open.
We definitely have a bright future coming. Clemson will be in the final 4 the next two years starting with upsetting UGA in game one.
