All of Floridas defensive recruits are saying that none

Of the staff told them that their defensive coach was leaving and going to Texas a&m. They are pissed that it happened the day after signing day and want out of their nli.

I sympathize with them but don’t think they’ll get out of it unless Fl chooses to release them from it.

This is one of the things that should allow an immediate release…

isnt there another time frame period coming around the spring game?

They can enter in April.

Dabo mentioned this as a hypothetical last year.

"We could sign a guy in December, him enter classes in January, then enter the portal in April. We could sign him and him leave before the season ever started."

The NLI is separate, a one-year contract. They agree to attend the school for a year and get the grant-in-aid in return; other NLI schools cannot provide a grant-in-aid until either the year is up or the original school gives a release. There are some exceptions built into the NLI, but I don't think the DC or OC leaving is one of them.

That is BS and wrong on so many levels

I hate the portal but crap moves like this are why it can be a good thing.

Yep and it’s the coaches who set up the portal for the players. A better offer and the coaches abandon ship, leaving the players behind that they recruited. Honestly, I hate the portal and NIL for what it’s done to CFB however, it’s only fair for the players that agreed to play for a coach - and the coach leaves them hanging by taking a better offer somewhere else.

Wow, that is some serious BS. So the DC that recruited them and got them to Florida, is leaving to go to Texas A&M the day after they signed their LOI to Florida. I may dislike Florida, but that is some bad mojo and I hope any defensive player wanting released from their LOI should be granted without questions.

It was Floridas LB coach not DC that went to A&M

Well they can transfer next year after they have a junk year. Also, their HC may be fired as well at that point.

I support bringing back the 1 year transfer wait rule and I think if things like this were updated and covered as an exception to the rule, it could work....maybe bring it back with the exemption for grad students and coaching situations like this

I dunno, just my thoughts but something has to give

This is what I’ve been preaching but all the Ivory Tower sports journalists reply back to me saying that the NCAA would have to find a way to compensate the players for having to sit out a year…. It just amazes me how distant 5 years ago really is

They had to add the one-time transfer exception because every kid who wanted to transfer was making up a reason and filing suit. They let it get out of hand by granting so many exceptions that really weren't legitimate, such as Justin Fields. Would have been better to grant zero exceptions.

Now the NCAA only has to deal with a handful that want a second undergrad transfer exception.

They literally can leave whenever they want. Why are they mad?

The system allows for free range of motion at any time. Not sure how anyone is eligible grade wise, but thats the system

I can only find one.

And, it sounds similar to something going on at Clemson. A dad of a player was a big time player at UF. He tweeted out that no one told him or the players about the coach leaving for aTm. (It was the LB coach at UF who went to aTm as DC.)

Things are not good at UF. There is probably more to the story than one guy complaining about lack of communication. I don't know. As an FSU fan I am torn. Part of me wants UF to go 2-10 next year and Napier get fired in October. But, another part of me wants him to go 7-5 and do just enough to keep his job.

I will say this. From the performance on the field it is very surprising that the LB coach at UF did a good enough job to be considered to be DC at any school, much less aTm.

It's like being the DC under Saban. He can be mediocre and the defense will still be good. The other Mike Elko played LB in the USFL and lives in FL, but he's getting old to get into coaching.

I fully understand your thoughts

I always want the chickens to go 0-12, but I don't want that blockhead beamer to get fired. So I hope they stumble but win just enough to keep him.

Well, there's no limit on transfers so they can hit the portal and bounce. This is the scenario where the portal is 100% legitimate.
