Ain’t gonna lie if Streeter can’t get a little more creative

Give that guy at Furman a call, their OC called an absolute masterpiece of a game. Knew all of our strengths, all of our weakness and exploited them all game.

Figuring out to run screen passes over and over doesn't

Make the dude Bill Walsh. It was more about our defenses ability to make adjustments than it was their play calling. That Furman QB though was pretty impressive in how he handled the team.

Absolutely not just like how they had a good gameplan and stuck with it. Also they had that QB dealing, also really impressed with Kentuckys OC this weekend.

So we're going to hire a coach to call screens to replace a coach that calls screens?

Dabo ain't gonna open up the play calling until he has to. We hear the same complaint every year when the opening opponents are beatable without showing everybody all the cards.

Not complaining in the slightest to early to make any judgements on the coordinators was more of a sarcastic post but that was lost ?

Honest question though, if we stick with the gameplan against LSU and continue running ETN who they couldn’t stop do we lose that natty?? I don’t think so, will never understand why we tried to beat them at their game but I’m also not in the coaching box

So how much of our playbook do you want to show Wake and NC State? This is just a flat-out stupid comment.

i also love the "we don't want to open up the playbook" reasoning... I guess glass half full is not a bad way to live life. I remember back in the day where we said this same thing for about 3 years under Rob Spence.. still waiting for that legendary "mad scientist" playbook to unleash itself. Never happened.
You're either moving the ball or you're not. And we're pretty stagnate (compared to the Deshaun Days.) It just doesn't look like we know what we're doing yet. Been that way for about 3 years. Even Trevor's last year was pretty clunky. WE just had extraordinary playmakers that could turn the game by themselves. This year we're good enough to win some games but not good enough to win a championship (at least right now.) We will have to rely on gutting out some wins as opposed to blowing the doors off of teams.

You tell me then: why would we want to show Wake and NC St. our playbook before we get into the heart of league play?? That makes no sense. Expect more plain vanilla offense on Saturday.

Our offense is so dumbed down to accommodate DJ's inability to think after the ball is snapped that it appears our OC can't call any form of option. As far as I can tell DJ's only option happens when the primary receiver is covered top and bottom, the option is whether to throw into that double coverage or throw the ball away.
Remember Jeff and Tony handling Cole after Chad left. Chad demanded that Cole do things he wasn't able to do then J&T limited their calls to what Cole was capable of. Cole looked good in that first bowl game after Jeff and Tony worked with what they had rather than trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
That was DJ's problem last year. DJ had them fooled in practice being that he was wearing a purple jersey and wasn't taking hits. He may relax like that later in the year but right now much of the playbook is on hold. It will be fed to him in a baby spoon until he is able to perform or replaced.

Hard to get too creative when the team has struggled to do the little things right. Also DJ is finally coming into his own and the last thing you want is to put a lot of post snap reads on him. Clemson is fine with what they are doing they just need to execute the plays already being called.

If we're having troubles with execution, why complicate matters? Keep it simple and execute---we're good enough to win.

I feel some of your frustration, but see both sides. Yes, a short week with little time to maximize the playbook, but I was expecting us to "impose our will" based on talent alone.
I never felt the game was in question, but was shocked to see (after the game) they out-gained us. Give Furman credit, they had a heck of a gameplan and played well.

Oh yeah ....... just can't understand why Streeter did not show our entire offensive package against an FCS opponent. In the second half we did not execute well, but no reason to get any more "creative".

Lots of folks defending not showing the offensive playbook in these early games and I agree that could be a factor. Just read several threads critical of Goodwin and the defense not being able to stop the screen pass. Possible the defense is also not showing all their cards? I think that could very well be the case.
