Acceptance

First my peeve on this totally inane concept: Losses help us; we will learn from this loss and be a better team.
Now to acceptance: So strange how we tolerate mediocrity in our basketball and baseball programs, but cannot accept the same with our football team. My take is for the Tigers to be always tops in all sports they undertake. Expressively, get us a great basketball coach NOW. 2 and 3 star recruits year in and year out don't get it. At his very best, our basketball coach is mediocre. Let's be great in all our undertakings. Let's not allow even our prime (football) to become mediocre like the other two sports we seem to be satisfied with. WE ARE CLEMSON !!! Let's be a year round terror to all our oppenents in football, basketball, and baseball.

Except for the basketball part. Nobody really cares about that sport and it loses money. Baseball loses money too, but at least people like to watch it. Anyway, I agree for the most part, except basketball.

Something that no other sport at Clemson besides football does.

Francis is correct.
Men’s basketball makes about a $1MM, while women’s basketball loses about $3MM/yr.
Net annual basketball loss ~ $2MM/yr

Anyone who has paid attention these past 60 years knows that Clemson has never been and will never be a basketball power. A fact. Also a fact, Tigers will have good, sometimes great, basketball teams.
Historically, the football program has performed similarly. Now, we’re in a football golden age and enjoying the longest, most consistent football winning streak in CU history. The football program will return to form at some point. Enjoying this moment is crucial. Similarly, there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t also experience a basketball golden age. But if and when that will happen is not relative to the snarkiness of poasters or the fowl calls for a regime change. A coaching change will occur when the time is right either for the school or the coach. Nothing proclaimed here will make an iota of difference.
What will make a difference for both basketball and football HERE is the constant negativity that filters down to fans, players, and recruits. But, alas, the anonymity combined with our vicious cultural wars mean that the inanity on these boards will continue to acidify the conversation and alienate everyone. So, keep it up. Right into the toilet.

"So strange how we tolerate mediocrity in our basketball and baseball programs," Um do people tolerate that though? Posts on here during basketball and baseball seasons can be pretty downright nasty.

Are you willing to take from other sports (including - GASP! - football)

from time to time in order to make basketball better?
Because that’s what it is probably going to take.
Currently, our basketball assistant coaches are paid below the national average. That should make everyone here livid. But when I’ve posted that in the past, it’s mostly crickets.
Our head coach isn’t in the top 50 nationally in salary. I don’t think his salary is unreasonable, but he’s definitely not overpaid.
We have inconsistent fan support. There are excuses galore for not having better attendance, ranging from the style of play, to the opponent, to it being a school night, to it being football season. Strong fan bases don’t make so many excuses.
Our administration has historically supported basketball the worst of any ACC program. I get it, we are a football school first. But if we want to be consistently really good in hoops, we have to view basketball as 1B on the priority list. To Radakovich’s credit, the Littlejohn renovation was well done by Clemson standards. The recent locker room upgrades were nice, and give me hope that this current administration isn’t going to continue the lackluster approach to basketball facilities that prior administrations had.
What Brownell has been able to do is significant, given the immense challenges. He’s not perfect by any means, but for a school that is content to focus on football so much, we are getting a ton of value for the money we spend on the basketball program. I can’t help but wonder what we could accomplish with even more consistency in the above.
