What was the story on his recruitment? Didn't we have a lead at one time? Wasn't he an unusual character when it came to be a recruit?

Sam Montgomery is an all SEC DE playing for LSU. He was considered the #2 DE in HS when he played for Greenwood HS. http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=3660187

Except perhaps Jadeveon Clowney, who's projected to be a top 3 pick next year...probably #1 overall.

My son and I were sitting close to him at the spring game when we were recruiting him and at halftime Koenning came over to talk with him and you could tell Montgomery was cold on us. To Koennings credit he pulled Sap over and tried to get the two connected. Thought then, we won't get him.

Sam never was a fan of college or pro football. so when recruiters came to Greenwood High they really had to recruit hard as he knew nothing about LSU Clemson or South Carolina before his commitment. He didnt even know who won the Super Bowl his jr year the Monday following. One of the nicest guys ive ever had the pleasure of knowing though.
