Kind of good Dixon and Mellusi moved on. How many rb's will have next year? Just 3? Hopefully they can stay healthy, because all 3 will get plenty of work.

I'd say 99% of us knew that CJ was not the problem. I'm glad Will verified what an asset he is to the program.

If I were Shipley, I would be careful about how much he can trust someone, we are in a world where most are about me me me, and giving up unguarded trust bites more people in the A$$ than about anything they do. Personally I learned about trust with friends and family a long time ago, and that your mother or father are about the only people in your life that is deserving of your unconditional trust. Giving trust to someone that you are friends with, those relationships can go north by speaking freely with them in a heart beat. If a person has things that they want kept secret, it's best if they never share it with no one bc, most people aren't going to tell on themselves

An uncommon look under the tent. Shipley seems to describe what happened perfectly. Whether he should have said anything is debatable in terms of overall team cohesion.

I was referring to posts on here that CJ “ran off” another running back when Mikey left. I don’t pretend to know what actually happened. I trust Dabo and his staff (yes - all of them). Just a little tweak for those who claimed to “know” CJ was abusing his power and creating an environment that was causing players to leave.

Something I have notice about Pace is that (at least on Saturday) he ran behind his blockers to perfection, something that seems to be always preached but never seen it done the way he did it Saturday, even with Etienne. Pace stayed low behind his blockers and waited for the hole/crease and hit it with speed and power. Shipley is getting better at it, but is still is a little indecisive and impatient on the proper hole.

The one bright spot on offense all year has been the RBs
Nov 22, 2021, 2:38 PM
|
|
CJ Spiller has done the best job of all the offensive position groups of having his young men ready to play every week.
As a whole, I can't think of a better group of RBs since the Spiller/Davis thunder and lightning combo. These freshman running backs don't play like freshman - they hit the hole full speed and aren't always trying to bounce every run outside. They aren't afraid of contact, keep their legs churning and almost always fall forward when tackled. Coach Spiller deserves a lot of credit for how he has coached the RBs this year in addition to how well he has managed the emotions of his group during this challenging year.

Yep, and he has the less experience as a coach than the rest of the coaching staff. CJ teaches real world experience from living through tough condition with his playing time as a RB in HS, college, and the NFL. I call it the school of hard knocks, the best training a person can acquire!!!

Grisham is currently coaching

2 true freshmen and a coaches son. Rest are hurt, all but Ross and Ngata the whole year basically.
There isn't a position group on offense that isn't severely hampered by inexperience due to injury except QB, where it has been lack of performance. Even DJ lacked experience there

It's a tough situation with all of the injuries, but the experience the freshmen are getting will serve them (and the team) well next year.

100% Correct. He also managed to keep his best three backs and two of those three were starting right off the bat regardless of experience level. Many said Mafah couldn't play because he would not know his blocking assignments. Wrong again - he's made his blocks and we didn't have to waste him to a redshirt by playing less talented players that have departed. I'll give CJ the credit until proven otherwise. Wish all position coaches were as successful as CJ has been in his first year.

CJ is definitely going to speak to Shipley after this one…

You don’t let that leave the locker room. He’s a freshman and he did catch himself and correct it a bit “I don't know if jealousy is the right word” but dang son. He’ll get coached up on addressing the media without discussing internal issues.

I agree with everything he said. However, I saw the O-Line step up more than they have all year, they were quicker getting to their blocks and finishing to the whistle. Hopefully that continues. All year i would see guys just stand around and watch the RB get gang tackled instead of getting behind and help push forward. Another thing we did more that's been dif all year was run off tackle, seemed like every running play by TE was a simple HB Dive for a yard or 2, we're way more dangerous if we get to the edge with these guys. I like what I'm seeing now.

Maybe what Shipley addressed as problems resolved has made the offense a more cohesive unit in general.

Agreed. He is a leader. I don't see anything wrong with what he said. He seems to have a high football IQ and carries himself like a 5th year Senior QB.
Clemson fans who has doubts about the future, watch the whole video.
Young kids trying to get playing time or learn a real world lesson, watch the whole video. All the greats studied film as much as possible.
Some of those jackhole reporters that search for nuggets or hot takes to make Dabo or the program look bad may get all juiced up by what he said. However, call a spade a spade. Apparently, there was an issue and now there is no longer an issue. Good on ya kid. Can't believe he's a freshman.

If he said these things back in September he’d be in trouble with the team as freshman not respecting his place. However, he’s a warrior and the entire team has now seen that heart. He probably aired more laundry than the coaches would like out there but his teammates get it.

Did anyone else notice Shipley giving DJ the business over those swing passes he threw in the dirt?
On TV, he looked fired up and was definitely saying something and it wasn't "good job." Honestly, someone probably needs to yell at DJ finally since the coaches NEVER do. They always baby him on the sideline even after he hands it off to the other team. Shipley seemed to be an alpha in that scenario.
Also, I noticed CJ round Pace up after that fumble and get him back on track. Seems like he's taken control of that group and their performing on the field. Where is the QB coach with that same energy...

game and the season around.
I love that Shipley is coming into his own as a leader through his performance.
He’s going to get better and better and he appears to be a natural leader.
Still, not sure anybody needs to be giving any team mates “the business” this year.

Great point. That play, and a couple others really can change a game and a season. NC State 4 & 5 in 2OT was another that I can't shake.
