What’s the importance of commitments and de commitments with the portal? Think about it..

A player can go and come back and with multiple upon multiple players in the portal a commitment is never a commitment long term to the program. It’s all about who you can hold on to and get to stay.

Understand what you’re saying here and I suspect there are other head coaches and programs that view commitments and the portal in that way. I don’t think Dabo does though. I think in his mind, us offering a scholarship / spot to a player is Clemson’s commitment to the player for 4 years and he expects their commitment to the same. A previous Clemson commit decommitting jams us up a bit in the way we recruit, don’t oversign, etc.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Dabo recently said as much (in summary, much better than I could) to recruits, if you’re not truly committing to Clemson, or are only doing a 1 year trial run and will just plan on hitting the portal after a year maybe you rethink your commitment to Clemson.
