He's their backup. I'm sure Brownell turned them down after several overtures from Cincy.

It's a joke but from your post I guess it went over your head.
Let me explain it to you. It's obvious NO school is trying to hire CBB away and I don't blame them. He's a good person but a bad fit for Clemson in my opinion. DRad missed big time by passing on Pat Kelsey.

Winningest coach in Clemson history is a bad fit? BTW, what on Pat Kelsey's resume tells you he could be successful at Clemson playing against the ACC in terms of being better than CBB? I am in a charitable mood so i will explain it to you. There is nothing. He might be great which means he would leap to a better job quickly or he might be worse than CBB. BTW, CBB has a stellar resume when he took the Clemson job...

If you think CBB is a great fit at Clemson then you must have loved Tommy Bowden. Same guy just different Sports; good but never great. If you can accept 5th or so place finishes with a round of 64 NCAA loss every 4-5 years with an occasional NIT trip the Brad is your guy. I think we should apply "Best is the Standard" to the hardwood as well. 1 guy can make a difference in the direction of the program and we have the best example right here at little Old Clemson in Dabo.
As far as Kelsey he is a Xavier Skip Prosser guy and has a very successful coaching record with a personality much like CDS. CofC will prove this over the next few years.

Sure, let's apply "best is the standard" to basketball.

If we fire Brownell, because he isn't "best," then we must also:
-Improve our basketball facilities considerably so that they are the best in the country. You're talking at least another $30-$40 million of investment, probably more. -Obtain the highest paid coaching staff in college basketball. You're talking at least a doubling of our current coaching staff salary budget. -Have the best fan base in college basketball. This means consistently filling up Littlejohn, or very close to it, with fans who are passionate and loud.
Because that is exactly what the Clemson football program has. The expectations are super high for football because a LOT has been invested in the football program. Do the same, or even something much closer to that than we currently have for basketball, and I'm happy to talk about a coaching change.
But if best is the standard, you don't fire your current coach to hire a guy with much less of a resume from a mid-major program.
Honestly though, 99.9% of Clemson fans don't have the balls to truly apply best is the standard to basketball. They can whine and complain like 9 year-old girls that "best is the standard" when we lose a game, but when it comes time to truly support basketball they run scared. They are all bark and no bite. The mere idea that basketball would get some funds which could be spent on football makes most Clemson fans shudder. And that's part of the reason why our basketball program is historically bad.
Being negative about our coach and blaming the coach for everything is the loser's way out. Painting the picture that the coach is the problem, and that everything else is in place to be a really successful program, is simply a defense mechanism to avoid the reality I laid out above.

Our basketball facilities are not that bad. Have you ever been to Cameron Indoor Stadium? We don't need to double our staff's salary with a new coach that's crazy talk. CBB was a mid-major coach as well at Wright State and UNCW so don't knock Pat Kelsey for that. His pedigree and resume is impressive.
At what point do we expect more from CBB? CBB has been here for 11 seasons for goodness sakes with a meager 3 NCAA appearances and one was the first year with Purnell's roster. We did improve from 9th to 5th this year but ended poorly with another post season first round loss as the higher seeded team. However half that team is now gone.
As far as "taking the losers way out by blaming the coach" do I blame the players? No...they came here because CBB recruited them. It all falls in the lap of the head coach. When you make 3 plus million a season that comes with certain expectations for performance. As it stands right now Clemson is overpaying for the return received. I disagree with your support of CBB but Judge you never waiver in his defense which is admirable in it's self.
Look I watch every televised basketball game down here in Tampa Bay and will frustratingly do it again next year. I'm 64 and hope to see a championship season some day but don't I feel like horse we got now will ever cross that finish line.

Brad is the 10th highest paid coach in the ACC.

I’d say we are getting a great deal, because our average ACC finish over the last four years is 6th.
The fact that you and others view him as being overpaid is a great illustration of the problem. Expecting results far above Clemson’s basketball investment isn’t really fair. Brownell has already shown that he overachieves based on his salary, preseason expectations, and recruiting rankings. At some point, we need to do more if we want to win more, and blaming a coach that overachieves seems to be misplaced blame.
Maybe the problem isn’t the coach, but something else?

laughing stock?
The program with the worst basketball history in the ACC, who currently has its winningest coach in program history, and has made 2 of the last 3 NCAA tournaments, and also has recently done record facility upgrades (largely due to our current coach), is going to fire this coach to hire a mid-major coach who has never coached major college basketball?
LOL!!
If he were so good, why was the College of Knowledge the best job he could get?
Let him prove himself more at C of C. If he does well there, and we are actually in the market for a new head basketball coach, I would certainly be for us strongly considering him. I'm not doubting that he is a good coach, and might do well here, but you don't fire Brownell to take a flyer on him.

sometimes wonder if Brad is stalling on transfers so that he sees if he gets another job, or gets a contract extension here. Saw on TCI that he is not expected to get an extension after this season.

Cincy might be a good fit for BB. Small ball, shoot 3s, clean up some negative items.
