Transfer portal = College Daddy Ball

Some of us have made jokes about it (myself included) but the transfer portal does remind me of daddy ball.

For those of us who’s kids played ball in the last 15-20 years know what I’m talking about. A kid is on the team and he’s not getting as much playing time as the parents expect so they go start their own team for junior. Sorry, I coach travel ball and I see it all the time.

Just like now, excuses can be made but in 99% of the cases that’s the real issue. Doesn’t mean the kids or families are bad, it’s just the way it is.

I coached too. The NCAA has opened a real can of worms. There will be more and more of what I call "tampering" occurring. It's going to do a lot to ruin the game unless they get a grip on it.

Of providing two things:
1. Give a graduate one last shot at their dream
2. Let malcontents move on, rather than fester in the locker room. Far less dramatic this way.

The portal is lending insight into the unseen dynamics within programs. Even at Clemson, the 'bell curve' says someone is on the fringe of 'All In'. Let them move 'All Out'...for the good of all.

Here is the reality of the transfer portal. The athlete enters the portal, the school is not required to keep them on scholarship while they wait. The new schools are picking over the athlete and only offering the ones that they want. Most schools don't have a scholarship to offer a one and done but want them to walk on. They were talking about it on the radio yesterday that more then half of the portal athlete have not found a new school. It is still new but I am waiting to see how the back end of the process works out.
