No Mention Of: Kyle Richardson

Dec 9, 2019, 2:00 PM

Kyle Richardson is an excellent Air Raid coach. He has learned the Clemson offense and now has that in his back pocket as well. His Air Raid knowledge is Lincoln Riley'esque! He studied under Leach as well as Kingsbury and Riley. I could see him adding some of that into the Clemson System.

He would be a natural fit for QB coach as he helped groom: Justin Worley(Tennessee) and Mason Rudolph(Oklahoma St.) as well as Will King(Furman). Jalen Mahoney(James Madison). He is a QB whisperer and will step in and do a fantastic job for the Tigers!

HillRockTiger Yes, Kyle is a really good coach but I think he stays where is for now, unless Jeff takes him. Right now there is just one position open, and that is wide receivers coach, and I believe that Tyler Grisham is the one in play there.

Was there another Jalen Mahoney out of RH? I only know of the one who went to South Pointe and played CB, and is now at Vandy.

No. You are correct. Gage Moloney was the Northwestern QB that went to James Madison. Mahoney went to Vanderbilt out of South Pointe.

I stand corrected.

Absolutely Jeff Scott will be missed. I hope Dabo will convince Jeff's father, Brad, to stay because their ability to recruit and talk with high school coaches is invaluable to the success at Clemson. Tony Elliott needs to immediately receive a salary increase to help keep him here.

Re: TNET: Jeff Scott departs for South Florida: What's next for Clemson program?

Dec 9, 2019, 2:34 PM

My opinion...
1. Brandon Streeter moves to co-offensive coordinator and still coaches QBs'.
2. Tony Elliot will get a great pay increase and coach WRs' instead of RBs'.
3. CJ Spiller will be the new RB coach.
4. Kyle Richardson will take over the recruiting duties.

Hate to lose the guy but you've got to think he left with Dabos blessing and that Dabo has known for a while he was going to jump at the right offer, which means a plan is in place. None of this is out of right field and none of it is taking anyone within the organization by surprise.

Re: TNET: Jeff Scott departs for South Florida: What's next for Clemson program?

Why is it so difficult to wait until after the first week in January to announce these things? Who leaked it? Coaches whose teams have made it to finals should keep news like this closer to the chest, imo. I’m happy for him, USF is getting a real one, but holy fn distraction. Not a fan.

I can't disagree with you a bit! I am overjoyed for Coach Scott. And, like you, feel he is more than deserving. But, heading into this part of the season, seems an odd time for this information to come out. Be it the people at South Florida or someone close to Coach Scott and family - I wish this had come out "after the bowl games"!

But, it didn't. Happy for him and hope it's not a distraction for our team!

I'm not exactly sure how something like this would be kept a secret. If I'm South Florida and if I'm Jeff Scott then why would I want to wait over a month without a head coach for recruiting? Why would you want to wait all that time before selecting assistant coaches? By that time most assistant coaches who are interested in accepting new positions will have already been hired elsewhere.

You wouldn't. But, it's been done before. With the new early signing period if you haven't made those connections by now; your pretty much done. As far as building a staff; I could understand that "if you are looking at hiring re-treads"! If you have your eye on somebody who maybe on a staff already you can afford to wait.
Yes a distraction!

Ole Nick Saban can tell you better than me. As he has said, "some people may have been looking more toward their next opportunity more than they were the game"! I don't believe that is who Jeff Scott is; but trying to serve two places inherently puts you in a situation where you can't be 100% focused.

Didn’t USF announce that he was their new coach. I would think they would want a coach on board ASAP to help with recruiting and getting a staff set up. Why would a school want to put themselves at a disadvantage by withholding that information?

As for being a distraction, it’s that he needs to being doing double duty in helping Clemson prepare for the playoffs while also working on his plan for his new position, not people knowing of the move.

Dec 10, 2019, 5:32 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Jeff Scott departs for South Florida: What's next for Clemson program? ]

I'm just glad he's staying through the playoffs. He didn't have to. I think we would have managed without him but it's nice to not have to figure it out.

I think it should actually work out well because essentially he is doing the same job for the next month... just coaching for us and recruiting (staff and players) for USF. There are only so many hours in the day and he knows how many he needs to spend on each to win a championship.

He has some time to focus on recruiting to make the late push for the early signing period and then turn and be focused on OH State for game week.

Back to basics practices here can do in his sleep and I'm assuming that scouting ourselves and game planning will shift off of him some and onto the next man up. What I most wasn't him there for is gameday management anyway. He can be 100% in the moment during the game and not mess with the delicate alchemy of the sideline management and getting the plays called in, etc.

It's a pretty big loss. I find it hard to believe it won't
