The SEC is not tougher but........

Nov 25, 2012, 8:28 PM

They have a few coaches in the league that share a common viewpoint on football. Some of the older school coaches shared it as well. Some coaches believe in flash and skill players running wild all over the field and being just too athletic to stop but some old school coaches feel a little different. IMO, I think they feel the sure... athletic speedy players are terrific to have but more importantly... strength, power and general toughness is more important.

Football is and always will be won by the team that can impose its will on the other team. And even though speed and skill helps a lot, great teams balance that with players that can simply impose themselves on their counterpart. Collectively this creates a very intimidating opponent. Does this mean that speed and athleticism will alwasy prevail over power? No. But most of the time it will. From the lines to the RB, imposing your will is what seperates good teams from great teams.

Some teams try and outflash you but an imposing team will line up and dare you to stop them knowing that you cant.

We need to keep out flash but add some players with power and a little more ugly. And yes, our strength and conditioning seems to be a little behind others.

But look at SC's D last night, they were recruited to impose themselves and late in the game, they did that.

I think there are some teams in the SEC we would roll over. So saying the SEC is tougher is a false staement. I am saying that the top schools in the SEC got that way by recruiting more physical and imposing players. So by position, some teams are stronger and tougher, sure. But the conference itself isnt all that tough, IMO.

SEC not tougher and more physical than the ACC?......I'll have to call 'caca de toro' on that fallacy.

Or did Texas A&M get that "SEC speed" in a years time. They didn't beat the poster boy of the SEC, the mighty Crimson tide, did they? In their own stadium??? Say it ain't so!

eactly.....

Nov 25, 2012, 8:40 PM

That is a great point. See, thats what Im saying, it isnt the conference, its the teams. And there are others around the country as well. Some coaches recruit that style becasue they know it works. Its hard to stop a team that can overpower you. Danny ford kinda had that mentality and it won him a national title.

I agree we need better line play. When you can run and stop the run regardless of the opponent. Then you're on your way to big time football. We need to get better at the LOS.
