Great game by USWNT!

Hard fought, well played, great game against a great Dutch team!
I don't agree with the politics of all of the players, but I'm still pulling for them b/c they represent my country. They don't agree with the politics of all Americans, but they're still playing for this country. There are red state ladies and blue states, rainbows and whatever else - I don't care. They're all wearing USA on their jersey, and that's all I care about.
Great win today!

some members of the USWNT are there representing themselves rather than the United States.

Point taken but doesn't that happen in every sport? Watch any NFL game and tell us if the player that catches a TD pass is celebrating for himself and his income or his team? I know it is both but self serving is the answer for almost any team sport.

You really think Rapinoe is representing her country?

She's at the Olympics to represent her politics, her pronouns and her causes. She has indicated multiple times she has nothing but disdain for the U.S..

polarizing and outspoken of the group.
I fully support her right to free speech and to publicly espouse her political agenda, and I will continue to exercise my right to completely ignore her. I have eaten my last meal at Subway as long as she is the spokesperson.

There are a whole host of reasons not to eat at subway. For starters their bread has some of the same ingredients as yoga mats, and their Tuna is 100% free of any actual Tuna.

followed by Firehouse. Jersey Mike's and Substation aren't bad either.
Not a big fan of Jimmy John's.

Rooting for America as well and glad we won. I only got to see the last few minutes and the shootout, great keeping by Nair. Did they really play well; the announcer said the US had 3 goals disallowed due to offsides? This has been a problem the entire tournament and the coaches should have cleaned it up by now. If they keep making these simple mistakes it’s gonna cost them a chance at the gold.

The Dutch dominated the entire 2nd half and most of extra time

US was barely holding on late until a couple of last minute disallowed goals (offside) on the counter right before PKs. Overall the Dutch pretty thoroughly outplayed the US over 120 minutes and probably deserved to win.
The Americans were wayyyyy better than the Dutch in the shootout though. All 4 US PKs were basically unsaveable and the Dutch had a couple of bad ones that got saved. They also had one ping in off the post which very easily could've missed.

Might be hard to believe, but you can, and should, be able to deeply love something without loving and supporting every facet of that thing. It is a good thing to be critical of the shortcomings of something that you are so invested in. Personally, with family, with work, with community, and outward from there - it is not possible to agree every facet of every association you have in life. And that doesn't mean you don't still represent that, and love it. Criticism, open discussion and willingness to change are necessary.

Disliking a soccer team does not mean you don’t love your country.

Hating your country does mean you hate your country.
Just wanted to straighten that out for some folks.

The actions of a few don't represent the entire team.

If the USWNT doesn't want to be thought of as a bunch of far left, anti-American feminists then they should tell Rapinoe to shut it.
