Question about VT football.

Oct 28, 2022, 8:28 AM

I watched it last night.
1. I'm a college football junkie.
2. I have a friend who is a VT grad and we were texting during the game.

Here is my question: How can any offense look so good for 1 quarter and so pathetic the other three quarters?

I have never seen that big a change - twice - in one game in my life. The third quarter wasn't just a run by VT. They didn't score 21 points due to turnovers or special teams.

Approximate numbers:
Total offense third quarter - 250
Total offense other 3 quarters - 50.

How did that happen?

I seriously thought that it was over when they went up 21-3. Wow that was interesting.

Nc state went back to pressuring the qb and his passes started missing afterwards. Adjustments I guess.

How did Nancy state qb all of the sudden started playing like his hair was on fire?

I would have sworn I heard Dandy Don Meredith singing "Turn Out The Lights, The Party's Over..." when VT went up 21-3. Just goes to show you that Dandy Don was wrong, and Yogi Bera was right: "It's never over til it's over, and sometimes it's not over when it's over."

Pretty difficult to watch.

Sometimes it all clicks or maybe the VT coaches made adjustments that took awhile for NC St to figure out.

I do not understand the demise of VT football.

I don’t like NC State but they would have had an above average year for them except for injuries.

Simple. State has a good defense and made adjustments plus VT is just not very good. Do not remember our defense made adjustments after we went down 14 to Cuse last week?

Actually it was our offense that made adjustments. They quit turning the ball over and was able to sustain drives and allow the defense to rest some. That made a big difference in how both sides looked better. Remember the defense only gave up 14 points 7 in each of the first 2 quarters. Another thing was the officials finally opened their eyes and started calling some of the holding calls that were allowing Syracuse to drive the field.

Let’s hope the holding call trend continues, because the egregious holds have been there quite a bit in all of the games, but ignored.

Just call the semi egregious ones and we are at 4 or so per game.

It looked to me like...

VT made some good adjustments offensively during the half. It took the NC State defense a series or two to adjust.

VT has a long history

Oct 28, 2022, 9:02 AM

Of letting good coaches get away, I bet that you real Tiger fans can remember a coach or two at Clemson who came in from Blacksburg!

I go back to when Claiborne was there. He had a couple bad years after really good teams and they axed him. He went to Md and had some really good teams there. when you get into coaching carosel you struggle and VT has done that some

I believe there was a couple of coaches named Hatfield and Ford that passed thru Blacksburg on their way to a better stop!

Pell also came to Clemson from VPI didn’t he? I believe he and Ford came together. Been so long my young memory is fading!

Danny was the OL coach at VT from 1974 to 1976

Oct 28, 2022, 3:57 PM

Charlie Pell was the DC at Virginia Tech in 1974 and 1975. Charlie came to Clemson in 1976 as the DC before becoming the head coach in 1977.

I’m not so sure the State defense was about to quit for the season because they were tired of carrying the team. Then Beck opened it up for the first time all year and they got their heads right again. Very weird.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

State didnt tackle very well in 3rd quarter

Hokies let Beamer hang around a little too long

Oct 28, 2022, 9:42 AM

Ala Penn St and Joe Pa. I think Beamer became a little less engaged on the recruiting front and the depth of talent started to wain….then they let Fuente hang around a little too long as well. He was supposed to be a QB whisperer and look at what he left behind. Their starting QB is a transfer from Marshall and he let Hooker get away to UT because he didn’t fit Fuente’s mold.

Pry has a lot of work to do…..

Yea I was speaking to the overall demise of their program. Not just this one game.

I wonder if they will eventually throw out a big number to Beamer after he finally figures out no one can consistently win at SC.
