Our beloved & deer Judge Keller keeps beating a dead horse..

in defending a Head Basketball Coach ((as fine a Gentleman as he is) who isn’t able to coach or enable his team to win tight games..or even to win 55%-60% of their games year to year.
Saying, does anyone have some new horses on their farm or corral that he can use..and maybe some more leather whips?
Thanks & Go Tigers..win 65-100% of your games and the horse lives to trot again! ??
PS: Is it true that BB makes $2.5,000,000 per year..
and didn’t Clemson Athletics spend $60,000,000+ in 2015/16 on LJ Coliseum to make it possible for basketball team & coaches to excel?
How has the win total % been “after” that upgrade & massive expenditure vs % of wins before?

You should see the travel collection he keeps in the back of that van. Not that I’ve actually seen it - but there are stories.

Unbelievable that Clemson continues to spend so much money on basketball.
No wonder our fans are mad!

Yes. Brad makes 2.5 mil a year. Ranked 38th highest paid coach. JK is a very fine gentleman that has made Clemson proud in the outside world. He is a huge donor, so he backs up his passion with walk and not just talk.
Our wins and percentage has gone up post lj construction. Hard to quantify and to correlate but reasonable to say it is a factor.
Brad lobbied and received more funding for recruiting. We gave him an extra resource for said reason. I'll give judge props, basketball run clean is a hard proposition in recruiting. Flip side, too many games like the BC game. We're only in that game late because of our grad transfers. Granted, that's part of bball too.
Impo, Brad is neither a good recruiter, or a good developer. BV, great example. He wasn't a big named high paid DC that Dabo brought in. We also weren't recruiting at a redic level. BV took average rated guys and put them in the NFL. BV slowly but surely earned his reputation as the best. Then was able to recruit the best because everyone wanted him as a mentor.
No one is knocking every year wanting Brad. That alone should be a red flag. Bottom line, we need a basketball coach that can do what BV did. It's not money. That's cart before horse. If bball coach came in and built a program, the money would be there. That's where I think judge gets it wrong. Hth with ur question.

You are correct when you say it is not money. Although Judge Keller makes some good arguments, spending more money will not likely help. There are several studies by the NCAA and others that show there is no correlation between spending on basketball and basketball wins. Additionally, there is no correlation between spending on recruiting and your recruiting ranking.

He's admitted in the past how he loathes recruiting. He provided evidence, as he has leaned too heavily on transfers for years. He keeps getting new contracts, but hates recruiting and the sparse NCAA Tournament selections reflect this attitude.

Wait, Venables wasn’t a big name or highly paid DC?!?

He was DC at Oklahoma. They had a ton of success there. He was a huge name when we hired him.
I know it means a lot to people to characterize Dabo and our football coaches as a bunch of nobodies who bootstrapped it and became successful despite all odds, but our football program became elite only after the administration ponied up money for better facilities and a higher caliber of assistant coaches. That includes Venables.

He was literally being demoted to co-DC and Oklahoma wasn’t exactly known for their shutdown defenses. Plenty on this board were very unhappy about the hire. If they don’t admit now and you’ll pretend you don’t remember but both the Chad Morris and BV were home runs that were heavily scrutinized.

Poor CBB works the salt mines for poverty level pay...

He poor mouthes the football program in private to anyone who'll listen, he should be ashamed to take the 2.5 mil. He rationalizes his failures are somehow due to the University's "slights" of his basketball program and the "favoritism" shown towards the football program. He never truly believes he's accountable for his incompetence, never a consideration.

It’s not about defending our head coach as much as it is standing up for our program.

I’m sorry you can’t appreciate the difference.
I’m tired of our basketball program getting crapped on by many of our fans. Don’t say you care about it, whine and complain we aren’t better, and then try to tell me that we support it well at Clemson.
It’s simple: if you want more, fund it better. If not, #### and go back to reading football articles and tweets.
I do want more, and I’m sad that most other people don’t when it comes down to it.

I got your back Judge.... Your critiques of the football program come from a place of defense for our basketball program. Keep doing what you are doing. May we see the day when we win a natty in both football and basketball.
We are all on the same team guys.... let's focus our attention on making fun of the Coots.

I'm afraid it's a line of thought that comes from a place based in jealousy and spite. A mindset so misguided that subscribing to "scorched earth theory", regarding the football program is a plausible and justifiable outcome, if it's demands are not met.

I have nothing against Brownell and have heard him speak at the prowl and growl meetings. I like his sense of humor and his delivery. BUT that’s all I like. Not a good coach for us and not what we need right now. We need a younger upbeat coach that likes recruiting and can relate to the young players. I guarantee you’ll get more interest from the fan base if a new coach is brought in. That change will bring people that are tired of Brownell back to the games. IF this new coach can bring excitement AND wins it will keep improving. I remember how it was with Oliver Purnell there. Lots more support then and we can have that again with a very good young coach.

He can’t appreciate it because it’s a lie. Other than “money” you haven’t lobbied for a single thing on behalf of our basketball program and can’t name a single, tangible thing that Brownell needs that he has actually been denied to do his job. It’s always in the context of keeping Brad. Always. Brad can’t enunciate to the AD or the public what it is that’s holding him back but you just know we should never, ever move on because reasons. You’ll just endlessly create new threads rather than face the farce you’ve created. It is fun watching your Brownell fanboy syndrome enter it’s death spiral.

Awful but TRUE……that is the part you JK can not and will not ever see or except for some reason……the Coach Brad Brownell era at Clemson has run its course and it is past time for a change……he has sucked the life out of Clemson basketball and he needs to go…..enough is enough!
