You probably had not noticed but Clemson and Villanova don’t hire from the same pool of coaches.

What have you noticed? Perhaps you noticed that Villanova cares about basketball which is the alpha sport at their school. That they invest heavily in the sport and they are in a top shelf recruiting area? Maybe you noticed that CBB has outperformed our historical average and investment during his tenure?
Not sure what point you are trying to make by comparing Nova basketball to Clemson basketball but dont think it is a winning position even for a troll.

That’s surprising to me. He’s only 60.

Retiring at 60 a multi-millionaire isn’t a bad deal though. I hope he can spend plenty of time with loved ones doing things he enjoys.

Just setting himself up to take the Duke job in a year after Scheyer is underwhelming… genius and gets a year off or paid doing broadcasting.

He makes more than double what we pay Brownell.

Plus Villanova is a much better job than Clemson.
We would need years of great administrative support, and a willingness to pay a coach way more than we currently do, for someone like Jay Wright to even consider it.
Contrary to popular belief, being good at football isn’t going to persuade elite basketball coaches to come to Clemson.

You’re probably right. Clemson football has brought an unprecedented amount of attention and money to the University in the last decade and a half but our milquetoast dud of a basketball coach (who has been here virtually every step of the way) failed to capitalize in any way despite the single largest financial investment in the program. You’ve made it pretty much known you think football is on it way out so that means the base of support goes with it. Too bad we stuck with such a loser so long or we might have built a basketball program to fall back on.
