Lost my Grandmother this morning to dementia. (Dad's mom)

Jan 20, 2022, 5:09 PM

It's been a long, hard journey. I'm so grateful she got to meet my now wife while she still had some of her mind left. These last 4 months have been painfully difficult.

We treat our pets better than our fellow humans at the end. When I went to tell her goodbye Tuesday she could only move her arms and couldn't speak at all. She was awake and patted my father's and my hands.

She was an incredibly kind woman. Gave me my love of travel, science, coffee, and chocolate milkshakes. Growing up, my grandparents lived a block away. I have the best memories walking to their house every week to spend time with them.

If any of you have a family member suffering from dementia I wish you much love and cherish every second even if they can't remember the last one.

Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight.

getting more common as people live longer, and it can be a long slow slide. I remember so much that impacted me from my Dad's mom, who died of cancer while I lived in Houston not long out of Clemson. Funny how the way she said something comes out of my mouth to this day. We have not had dementia in our families yet, but I have seen a lot of it.

Dementia is such a cruel disease. My mom is in the very last stage of dementia and may not be with us much longer.

Seems like you still love her and thank you so much for sharing your memories. My aunt and uncle suffered from dementia. There are so many things they gave me like your grandmother, she gave me many things to remember. She was like my mother and friend she taught me basic household things like making coffee, cooking, and many more.

You are a complete dikwad for posting this in a thread where someone lost a loved one.

I know China, Russia, and India are hard places to make a living as a bot. But this thread certainly isn’t the place to do it.

First, so sorry for your loss. Prayers to you and your family.

Daddy's dementia has started. Physically he is in great shape for 88 so I'm not sure how this is going to all play out.
