We have now played 4 top 10 teams this season (Gonzaga, Arizona, duke, Miami). take out the duke game, we have held leads in all of those into the final 4-5 minutes of the game. Throw in the 2 buzzer beater losses vs FSU and NCST, that's 5 games against SUPERIOR teams with SUPERIOR talent (all have been in the top 20 at some point this season) that we have led into the final minutes. This is not a post to talk about moral victories!
Some love to blame brownell for these losses, but isn't it coaching that keeps u in games against superior talent?
It also isn't a lack of effort from our guys. It takes grit, determination, fight, and competitiveness to hang in games against superior talent.
The bottom line is, it's not brownell, or lack of effort that causes us to lose these games, it comes down to 2 things, experience and leadership. We all know, we lack both of those.
Give these kids and coach B till next year and see how these experiences in these heartbreakers pay off.
Don't say we won't compete because of lack of big men, our young guys will develop and Brownell will coach around it.
I've been watching this same story repeat itself over and over for more than 30 years. We have had coaches good and bad. Talent good and bad. Only on rare occupations have we tasted success. So many games lost because we can't make free throws. I don't know what the answer is. Brownell seems to be a good coach
