LB Question for Insiders / Gurus

As I understand it, last season Wesleychick moved Simpson from Sam where he played very well in 2021 to Mike or Will where his play fell off. Then late in the season, Wes swapped Simpson and Carter with Simpson moving back to Sam and Carter to Will. Carter's play seemed to elevate immediately and Simpson's.

So Monday morning QBing this thing, is that the way it happened? Did Wes miss on the original alignment? Looks corrected now and Carter, Trotter and Woodaz look poised for a great 2023.

He also moved Woodaz to DE in the OB...

which was due to some injuries and opt outs. I get that, but Woodaz is entirely too small to play DE.

Frankly, he's probably more of a safety.

I would think Woodaz is better suited at Nickel LB or weak side LB do to his speed & coverage ability. He's very much like Isaiah Simmons & yes technically he was a safety.
To answer your question the best I can, not a lot of differences when you look at a Sam, Will or Mike LB. Same run technique, more just reading different keys. Who is your responsibility in each situation & not loosing containment. The biggest problem comes when a player has played one position more often & then when switched, they kinda fall back to old habits.

Remember Carter moved over due to Simpson being injured. Carter took to it like a fish to water. I can’t recall how Goodwin handled things when Simpson returned, but at the time I thought that should have been the assignments starting earlier when Simpson struggled with his eyes and overpursued inside leverage and we had some chunk play busts on the outside.
