2 new teams will join the ACC…

However it will not technically be an expansion because 2 ACC teams will join the SEC. As of this afternoon 5 ACC schools have reached out. Only 2 of those are considered serious candidates for membership.

It's only a story if the SEC is reaching out.
Who are the schools and what is your source?

That’s not the protocol. Conferences don’t contact other non-conference members it’s the other way around. That’s not just the SEC that’s ALL major conferences. That’s what happened with Texas and Oklahoma and every other case of transfer that’s happened. The Big Ten did not contact Maryland Fitts, for example.

Maybe not normally and likely never officially, but my guess is that there are back channels being set up all over the place the last few days.

If I had to guess, I would say NC St was the first. They’re desperate and know they’ve got everything to lose. Miami is probably next as well as Fl St and hopefully Clemson. Louisville is likely the 5th but who knows.

I've always heard the SEC liked NCSU since it would open NC to that conference. UNC would not likely go.
Maybe VT would also be attractive to the SEC for that reason.
Of course, Clemson and FSU would be the biggest football targets if the blockage issue by UF / SC were managed.

The opposition can be "managed". You make the AD's at USuck and Fl. a deal they can't refuse. Wink. Wink.

But they have not done so and don’t intend to under current circumstances.

You can have 3 teams vote against your membership and still be accepted. The idea that one team can blackball you has always been a myth. If aTm wants to keep Texas out they can do that but need to talk 3 other ADs into voting with them.

cheerleader for Alabama like the rest of that conference is. We can just take care of our business and meet their best in the playoff and go from there. We have a conference includes Clemson (2 national titles in the last 4 years and 2 runner ups and three total titles) Florida State (won't be down forever, national title in 2013 and three total) Miami (4 national championships) North Carolina ( a team the SEC would love to have) Virginia Tech (a team the SEC would love to have) 1-2 vs UGA NC State Pitt (a national title only four years older than Georgia's) LOL! and is 3-0-1 vs UGA Georgia Tech (located in the capital of the south Atlanta and a natty 5 years more recent that UGA) Notre Dame partial member Boston College (2-2 all time vs Georgia and has won the last two meetings) Virginia (another school the SEC would love to have and 7-9-3 vs UGA) Wake Forest a team that leadss the series with UGA 2-1
And we may get West Virginia, a team that is 1-0 vs UGA.

I’m not a proponent of adding Texas and Oklahoma. I can see the rationale, but there’s down sides to everything.

that way you can play every team in the conference and still have enough games left over to schedule good match ups.

I don't think Texas will be able to push around the SEC they way they can the Big 12. The SEC has enough other power programs such that Texas will just be one of many.
The thing about Texas and the Big 12 is that they are hugely disproportionately responsible for whatever Big 12 revenue is generated. In the SEC, that won't be the case, and they know it.

It doesn't mean Texas won't try and be a pain while doing so.
