Seeing BULLDOG’s post about Kirby being at

Feb 8, 2022, 2:25 PM

UGA for many years to come and the UGA/Clemson “rivalry”, I think it’s best to use history as our best indicator of the future. It’s never, EVER been a rivalry. Oh sure, a few interesting games when both were pretty good. And Clemson fans like to view it as a rivalry… But UGA owns the series - always has. UGA has several big rivalry games every year.

In 65 contests, Clemson has 18 wins. 18.

From 1897 – 1916, they played 20 times, meeting in Athens, Clemson, Augusta and even Anderson, SC! This stretch was the time in which the “rivalry” was closest, as UGA narrowly lead the series 10-9-1. So in the first 20 games, Clemson won 9. Since 1916, Clemson also has 9 wins.

It’s a fun game for sure. I enjoy it every time it comes around. And fans talk trash, whether it’s warranted or not. I certainly listened to a lot of talk throughout the spring and summer of ‘21… The result, however, is fairly predictable.

I think the extent the was a rivaly, it ended some 25 years ago. Ask UGA fans who their rivals are and they'll tell you Florida, Auburn, and GA Tech (maybe Tennessee). Of course UGA fans want to beat Clemson but I don't think they view this "rivalry" in the way Clemson fans seem to.

fact is you avoided us...I know I have inside info. CU was too scared to schedule tough OOC games, you didn't want to blow your chance of a CFP by just winning the a weak ACC and having your one good game as a lost. That's why you played AU and TAMU while they were down.

See, I can post dumb factless stuff too. It was a good game this past season. Accept the fact that UGA won a natty and now you no longer have 1980 as an excuse anymore. Better hope Dabo learns to develop and not just rely on generational QB's or the Mayo is going to taste good next year.

LOL...me either. Georgia trying to all of sudden make themselves a national player like Clemson and Alabama is hilarious...They are more of an LSU until Kirby wins multiples NCs

Feb 8, 2022, 2:54 PM

play Clemson on anything like a regular basis sine it appeared Clemson was getting the upper hand in the late 1970s through the early 1990s.

The fear factor from Georgia came in the form of a 34-3 thrashing in Death Valley.

Coast on your century-old domination if you want.

But if you want a rivalry, you have to schedule a regular, annual home-and-home series.

Not once in a while, but every single year.

I know, I know ... the SEC schedule is just too tough for such an out of conference match-up. Right?

Well, if you believe that Clemson is not a threat, then scheduling an easy out of conference win each year should be attractive to Kirby.

Quit talking the talk and start walking the walk.

Re: Seeing BULLDOG’s post about Kirby being at

Feb 8, 2022, 3:37 PM

UGA's performance as a FB team over the past 41 years (when compared to Clemson) is best described by an analogy:

UGA is the self-described 'stud' who, after 'scoring once with a chick' in 1980, brags to others for 40 years about his new conquests ... when he and everyone else knows that he's had ED since 1981. Lots of strutting about, lots of looking at You Tube girls and pay-for-calls on QUEST, but no real action.

Clemson is the regular guy who has enough sense not to brag about exploits with the ladies, but has 'accommodated' 3 super models while UGA was praying for a stronger version of the little blue pill.

Congrats for finding in 2021 that stronger little blue pill ... or should I say the little blue NIL and buying your 'super model' conquest.

(And don't forget to thank Clemson for kicking D.Kendrick off the team so that you could start him. UGA doesn't beat Bama in the Nat.Championship game without D.Kendrick.)

You're welcome ... any time.

Feb 8, 2022, 4:01 PM

Well now, having lived through it in the 70's through early 90's, the 1977-1991 period was great with 6 Clemson wins, 6 UGAy wins and a tie. They did not play in 1988 or 1989. Of course, the birth of modern Clemson football dates to the 1977 season. Ford and Dooley had many a classic game in this Savannah River border rivalry. When the 1989 season ended Ford was let go, Clemson was divided (athletics vs academics) and we struggled in the Hatfield, West, and Bowden years. UGAy won 5 in that period. Anyway, the record between 1977- 2021 is 12-7-1 in flavor of UGAy but take the 5 wins out during the dark days of Clemson football and you have 8-7-1. I fully expect us to beat you the next time we play. Go Tigers!!!!

Feb 8, 2022, 6:06 PM

That would explain why Georgia declined to renew the "home and home" series that has been in place many years because Clemson was "too tough an opponent" for a non-conference game. Sorry troll! Take that garbage back to Athens cause it won't sell up here in the civilized world. The record speaks for itself but it's "out of balance" due to all the early years when Georgia's deeper pockets allowed them to have far more than then typical 85 to 90 scholarship players. The stats from "the modern era" tell a very different story. Just face it; Georgia got lucky in 2021. It was an off year for all the typical powerhouse teams, including Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Clemson. No one will ever win an easier National Championship than your Dawgs did. Unwilling to accept that fact? Then let them go repeat in 2022, or even in 2023. It ain't gonna happen! Go Tigers!

Re: Seeing BULLDOG’s post about Kirby being at

Feb 8, 2022, 6:31 PM

What "era" would you like to use? Clemson's longest win streak was 3 games between 86 and 90. Other than that Clemson's best string was 7 wins in a row starting in 1900. I assume you don't consider that the "modern era." Clemson won 7 of the first 10 games of the series. If UGA had all these advantages what explains how Clemson went from 7-3 to the bottom falling out? Sometimes a record is "out of balance" because one team is better.

UGay fans only know a small part of the history. There is a reason Georgia has played such a small amount of games in Clemson compared to the overall number of games. That's bc Georgia refused to play in Clemson. Plus you have to keep in mind where both schools were at each individual game. Clemson is a smaller university and back when Georgia has the majority of there wins Clemson was an extremely small school. Majority of UGay's wins came when Clems9n was looked as a Citadel today. So congrats on the wins I guess. What Coach Howard did at Clemson was astounding. I know context flies over the head of a fan base just a hair this side of the Lamecocks but it matters. Just the fact you over here posting shows how little you even know about your own university and next time you try and talk crud grab a book on Clemson football history and realize how little most of your overall wins even matter.

I was a freshmen in '72. During the '60 and '70's. During that time Clemson would schedule GT then Georgia the next week. They were usually the second or third game of the season.
That was long before GT joined the ACC. Yes they were pretty good during the Bobby Dodd days. They would usually beat Clemson by about 20 points. The next week they would play Geogia and usually get beat by 40 points.
Then is the '80's Clemson would start to actually be competitive and actually win a few games. Right after that Vince Dooly (for you young people he was their coach at the time) He made sure that Georgia and Clemson would not play every year but just every once in a while. That's where we are today.

Also whenever I would go to Athens to see Clemson play any car that had anything Clemson on it, would probably be vandalized. Now that I think of it, Columbia was almost as bad. At least Columbia has much better dressed type of redneck. At least some people at the Clemson games might be dressed in orange coveralls but they are as far from redneck as I've ever come across.

I guess nothing has really changed, If someone (with the opposing teams garb on them) will not only not get there cars vandalized but if they cross any field where the Clemson people are tailgating they will be probably treated to whatever is on the grill and possibly a beer.
