Inflation....

They keep giving us this 8 or 8.5% inflation number, but in my personal life it seems inflation is much more than that. I don't really want to argue the cause of it. What are some shocking price increases that you have noticed in these last couple years?
- I just spent about $450 to overseed my lawn (fertilizer, fescue seed, and aerator rental) It normally would cost me about $120 in seed, $15 in fertilizer, and $50 aerator rental.
- sub sammies at my local grocery chain have increased from $6 foot longs to $8.50 foot longs
- 12 packs of Sierra Nevada hazy IPA retailed at about 18.99 and would always be on sale for $15.99. Its never on sale anymore and it now retails for 20.99
- gas has been a wild ride for me. 3 years ago I could fill up my Honda Civic for less than $25. A full tank got up to close to $60 at one point. I have since upgraded to a Chevy silverado and it's usually $100 for a tank.
- going to restaurants isn't even worth it anymore. we had brunch at a decent place this past weekend. Two plates, 2 kids fruit bowls, and a Bloody Mary totaled us $80 after tip. I have now moved to buying premade meals at Whole Foods instead of getting takeout.
- parking for events went up from $20 to $35 at a Local arena.

Add up the total cost increase of throwing a good tailgate ! Dish TV went from 86/mo to 106. It’s tough out there.

Yeah. It’s awesome. I retired in January…promptly lost 25% of my 401k and almost doubled my day to day expenses. All my planning went to hell in 9 months.

I think inflation percent is year over year so the 8.5% is since last Oct which was up same from previous October Plus Biden admin changed reporting rules and separated out energy and housing costs which are the biggest drivers on the supply side.
Its all so unnecessary is the saddest part

Yep. Everything costs more now. Inflation has been low/flat for a decade plus. We get hit with a 100 year pandemic and are still suffering through supply side inflationary causes. I just bot kitchen appliances and they are all on backorder. The war in Ukraine has upset commoditized world energy and food markets (they are a world bread basket), thus spiking inflation. Avian flu has spiked poultry costs, etc., etc. Oh yeah, forgot health care costs which increase almost 2x vs annual CPI over the last 20 years. Finally, while wages have gone up recently, your buying power is still about what it was 40 years ago.
On the bright side, Clemson is 7-0. Sounds like a fair trade to me. Go Tigers!

returned 2 cable boxes. We don't go out to eat. Go to Aldi's. Stocks are crap. May go in to private equity. Fewer road trips. Eliminated gym membership and walk the hood and work in garden. if I need it, get it. if I want it, don't.

Sowing and reaping still works during these times. It’s crazy that our gas/energy costs have skyrocketed, grain and food for animals has more than doubled and finding people that will actually work after giving them checks from Uncle Sam for so long is tough but our awesome God gave us freewill and a easy way to avoid tough times.
What we sow we will reap, if your short $ give more of yourself and sow financial seeds cheerfully, God will help you produce a harvest that’s inflationary proof of course we need to be wise with our harvest.

world or come anywhere close to the middle class. When my teenage son got a part time job paying $15.00 per hour, I knew we were in deep doodoo. One year previous, Same employer was paying $8.50.
You don't have wages increase like that and conclude that inflation is transitory. It might be "transitory" after the recession we are about to have. I guess they left that part out.
