Ifs and Buts I know, but the UGa game....

1. If it's Trevor at QB, we win. Right?
2. If we played that game last week, we win. Right?
I mentioned to some friends that I really think Clemson is just as good as UGa, if not better. UGa has been propped up because they belong in the SEC. Their best win? A 10-3 defeat of Clemson.
This was exhausted by Walt this week (I know, I know) but UGa's schedule was incredibly weak. The names of Florida and Auburn create this national buzz that wins over them seem impressive. But when you pull back the fragile yet expensive SEC curtain UGa is just a great defense and a mediocre offense...that happens to play in the best football conference in the land.

I'm conflicted on my opinion of this. On one hand we played Georgia very close and the ultimate difference was the pick 6. I also agree with you that Georgia didn't really have a very tough SEC schedule. On the other hand, it's hard for me to say we were just as good because tough SEC schedule or not, Georgia destroyed every team they played after Clemson up until the Bama game. Clemson dropped 2 games against teams that are at least comparable to some of the teams Georgia played, and Clemson played pretty much every game down to the wire up until the final 3 games. I'm not so sure Clemson would've gone unbeaten with Georgia's schedule and especially don't think Clemson would've blown all those teams out.

The only reason UGA is undefeated is because Clemson beat Clemson that day.

Both sides can "what if" this to death. What if UGA had Darnell Washington, George Pickens and Dominick Blaylock available? What if UGA had a better QB taking snaps (as you suggest with Lawrence)? What is UGA doesn't turn the ball over twice in Clemson territory - do they some points on at least one of those possesions? What if UGA punches it in at the end of the game (instead of running the clock)? Does 17-3 end much of this debate?

I attended Clemson in the early 80's. Every freaking game was a one score game it seemed.
It's why we should play more often.

It didn't just seem like one score games. Other than the 81 game that Clemson won by 10, everything else was a one score game.

Clemson would not beat Georgia today, or last week. We have too many players injured.

1. Yes. Simply from an experience stand point, Trevor would have been better. I think UGa took the approach of let's throw everything we got at the new kid and just overwhelm him.
2. No. The reason I say that is their offense did improve over the year. Even though we saw flashes from our O the last few games, I still don't think it would be enough to overcome their defense.
I would say that their best win would be either us or Kentucky. I would definitely say if they were in the SEC West, they would probably have 2 losses (Bama and A&M), maybe more.

Man, LET IT GO! We lost that game, and yet, in the final

analysis, it affected our season not one iota. The OTHER losses to Nancy's Taint and Pitt are what cratered our season. Win those, and we are continuing our streak of playoff appearances, WITH that much ballyhooed Georgia loss.

That's a whole other discussion. If we did go 11-1 losing only to UGa, DO we get in the playoffs? Because at that point we're fighting UGa and Cincy for that final spot.

At 12-1 with the only loss being to UGA by 7 points, Clemson would be ranked ahead of Michigan and Cinci.
Those would be the two school fighting it out for spot #4.
We would be squaring up for a rematch with UGA in the semifinal as we speak.

a really solid showing in the ACC Championship game, I think the fact that we are Clemson, and a Power Five conference champion, would have given us the slight edge over Cincy.
Now, if you add an Oklahoma State winning the Big 12 (instead of coming up a foot short), then for sure I would think Cincy was out, and WE would probably have lost that fourth spot to Okie State.
None of that matters, because we took ourselves out of those types of conversations with the ACC losses, AFTER the Georgia loss.

Yes and no - we would have needed to pass (bubble screens don’t count). Vertical only.
