I love our Tigers, but it’s time to be honest.

Sep 18, 2022, 3:33 PM

Our team should be ranked between 10 - 15.

DJ is better, but his passing accuracy is still off at times. I congratulate him on improving. He’s working hard.

Our defense secondary on both sidelines leaks like a sieve. UGA would throttle us on the corners. We’d lose by five td’s.

The OL doesn’t open up enough holes. We end up 3rd and 6 too many times., then we throw a screen for a 1 yard gain.

The screen pass should be banned. The offense is too slow to use this play effectively.

The WR’s still drop too many catchable passes.

We look about 11-2 or 10-3 at best. I just don’t see the team in the playoffs this season.

There’s only one national champion at the end of the season and it isn’t this team.

I love this team, but it is what it is.

Sep 18, 2022, 3:44 PM

We have certainly not looked like a top 5 team. And based on our current body of work, 2 or 3 losses looks like a good possibility, but I still believe this team is capable of much better. The next two weeks will show us a lot. If we go 2-0 and look good doing it, this could very well be a playoff team (although playoff wins don’t look very promising). 1-1 and ACC championship is still on the table, but I am afraid that if we lose one of these two, we will likely drop another one somewhere along the way. 0-2 is not likely, but very possible. That scenario could get really ugly, and fast.

Go Tigers! Most important game right now is the next one. Beat Wake!!

I’m tired of the “our team will get better” nonsense.

Is there any fan base after 3 games that is saying “well guys, we’ve clearly peaked and it’s all downhill from here!”

Every team thinks they will get better as the season progresses yet somehow 50% of teams still lose every weekend

In 2016 Clemson beat an unranked Auburn by 6, beat Troy by 6, almost lost to NC State, and did lose at home to Pitt. People thought there was something wrong with Deshawn and that Clemson wouldn't make it back the the CFP.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You poor guy. You know 8 in a row is coming.

Sep 18, 2022, 4:37 PM [ in reply to Re: I agree with the ranking part, at least ]

And yes, we'll be playing much better by then, just like we got better last on the way to an utterly dominant 30-0 drubbing of your pitiful team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We have a track record of getting better as the season progresses.

Sep 18, 2022, 4:46 PM [ in reply to Re: I agree with the ranking part, at least ]

If we have seen it for the last decade what makes you think this year will be any different especially when we rotate so many players?

You definitely have the mindset of a seasoned coot. High expectations that quickly dissolve after the season starts or a hot start that ends with your team completely falling apart near the end of the schedule particularly in November when it counts the most. Dabo’s teams seem to hit their stride while many teams that start hot fall off of a cliff.

Stupid post of the day award goes to you.

Our team will “get better” if we do the following

Sep 18, 2022, 4:46 PM [ in reply to Re: I agree with the ranking part, at least ]

1. Get healthy
2. Reduce or eliminate correctable mistakes

I meant we were capable of a better result than 2-3 losses, but I do believe we can also get better as a team. If you haven’t seen improvement in DJ and the offensive line’s play week to week, you are blind. If you think the WR’s weren’t “better” as a group last night, you are blind. And if you think we didn’t defend the screens better, you are blind.

I realize that much of the GT game, almost all of the Furman game, and the first half of last night’s game were painful to watch. But if you think those stretches are who we are, then maybe you should just quit on us.

We were missing a ton of key players last night. A bunch of young guys got important PT, and certainly that will make us better in the long term. And although Barrett Carter played an exceptional game overall, that fumble was really sloppy and a huge momentum swinging play. You can bet he won’t make THAT mistake again!

Look, I am a “pumper” and proud of it. I’ll pull for the team my way, and you pull yours. We are both Tigers.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I believe the beauty of sports is that they mirror life in many ways while still being a game. There are so many competitive pieces to life and I learned from a wise man many years ago to surround yourself with people who challenge you and don’t agree with everything you say and do. It doesn’t mean you will always fold to their opinions but it keeps you always working to get better. I think pointing out the obvious flaws and downfalls of this team and predicting where things will fall if those don’t get fixed is what we should do as true supporters of the program. It doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy the wins and hope we address the deficiencies and cheer with all you have on Saturday’s for this team to prove you wrong each week.

The idea that you cannot question this staff or program is completely absurd.

I agree. I was at the game last night. I was giving this team a break last week because of Ella and Bryan Bresee, hoping they’d be more focused and game-ready versus La Tech. They weren’t.

A Play Off/Elite Caliber Team should be able to impose their will on a team like La Tech on their home field, during a night game in the first half. They did not. There is no hunger or drive on this Clemson team, especially offense. You can’t just put it all on DJ either. I put most of this on coaching. Tyler Grisham and Brandon Streeter specifically. And yeah, Oline is a disappointment too.

I think DJ has improved but still is not what I expected. But is playing good enough, but not great. The O-line is better but not great. I can't remember the last great offensive line we had. Above average is good enough for right now as long as they improve to a B+ over the next few games. It's the receivers to me that are still too similar to last year. The one bright spot is the slot receiver Williams. He is playing lights out. And of course on D our backend is a grade C-.

We should beat Wake by 17 to 21 points.

I like your objective truth. Many people on here don't like it.

We as fans are used to seeing and having a player or players that hit multiple chunk plays to all of a sudden a score.

We don't have anyone to take the game over in 2 or 3 plays. Nobody to single handily to take the top off or dash the hopes of opposing teams with big consistent gains and touchdowns.

Did you leave out Renfrow and Lawrence intentionally for a reason as examples of game changers? Or was it an oversite on your part?

Another thing is that if you are going to be one of those grind it out teams your QB must be a field General. In other words access the situation very quickly and make good decisions. Having a strong arm and being able to throw the ball 70 yards does not matter or come into play very often in that kind of offense.

truth is, our season could go a couple of ways, depending on whether or not we learn and grow from some of the poor play we've seen so far and make the proper adjustments, or whether we keep repeating the same mistakes. The next couple of games will be very telling, as the level of competition ramps up significantly. If we are going to have a successful season, we've got to get some things fixed really fast. If we can beat Wake and NCST, we'll be in great shape going forward; if not, it's gonna be ugly.

I get what you're saying; but "it's September"!

We are playing a ton of players; which is something you have to do i.m.o so players are sitting feeling like they want to transfer out.
Doing so causes lack of continuity though.

I think we'll be okay.

I also think if we are scoreboard watching and wanting Clemson to beat times like other high profile college teams did "we will consistently be disappointed"! This is an old argument and something Dabo has taken heat for in the past. He sometimes puts backups in "too early" for some people's liking.
In the era of the transfer portal - DAbo has Mastered a plan of action that likely keeps kids a lot happier!

We'll be fine.

Are we ranked higher than we should be? I haven't been overly impressed with a ton of teams behind us. Who are you putting in our place? I don't think we should be 1st or 2nd. Heck, you may be right and we don't deserve a top ten ranking. I just know; this team if we don't suffer a CFP disqualifying loss will be a much better team come November and December.

No issue with playing many players. It has paid dividends in the past and Coach Swinney certainly knows a million times more about this than me.

One minor quibble though, the 2015-2020 vintage Tigers would blow out lower tier teams AND play a ton of players. In those days, our second team could push around these lesser teams.

Just like I said last night in the 1st half when this board of non believers were in rare form, we will be fine and we were. The expectation of never losing a game is unrealistic but we have a chance again in the regular season this year. Are we as good as Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State or Michigan? It is way too early to tell but so far at 3-0, we qualify, which is pretty good.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I love our Tigers, but it’s time to be honest.

Sep 18, 2022, 4:27 PM

Really well done job of summing it up. Basically, this team is good enough to beat anyone on the schedule on a any given night.

But it has enough flaws to cause us to play a stinker vs anyone on the schedule and take an L.

And this will play out over the course of the year. We will win our share, beat a few teams that maybe are better, and lose one or two or three to a few that are less talented. Football is kinda beautiful like that.

Best case IMO - [11-1] In the playoffs, first round loss to one seed.

Worst case [8-4] Real competition sees DJ struggle again, defensive enigma continues, mid bowl game

My honest guess, with maybe alittle orange colored glasses [10-2] DJ at least holds to current level of improvement, Oline gels and trends positively going forward, D talent too good to be denied by playcalling or what appears to be philosophy change, news years six bowl game

Re: I love our Tigers, but it’s time to be honest.

Sep 18, 2022, 4:46 PM

I think this team from a player perspective has a chance to really improve. We have many starters on defense that will get back into the lineup. We have a couple promising freshman WRs that could be dangerous at years end. What I’m not confident about is Coach Streeter figuring out how to call a game that utilizes our best talent in the best way to force defenses to spread out and pick their poison. Defenses stick with loading the box and having decent success keeping the Tigers off schedule on 3rd down.

Sep 18, 2022, 8:18 PM

Is correct. I am seeing very good improvement in DJ and I hope the defensive debacle Saturday was due to all the players that were out. Offensive line has not looked good. And yhays against the weakest teams in schedule. Receivers are getting better. Really like Beau Collins, Antonio Williams, the tight end. Ngata made a great catch Saturday night. Adam Randall looks good and was robbed of a td by uncalled interference. Spector is good. I also have confidence in Will Taylor and would like to see him with some meaningful snaps. Dacari Collins has also seemed good.

Actually disappointed in the pass rush. How on earth can we mot have a good pass rush.

Not every year will be a playoff year, at least as long as only four teams. We have the athletes. We just dont have a high caliber offense headed by a seasoned coach.

What Ole Miss did to GT is what we should have done. Not 14-10 in late 3rd. As for Furman, no words. And for La Tech, well Missouri had an easier time with them.

Re: I love our Tigers, but it’s time to be honest.

Sep 21, 2022, 5:02 PM

Based on current state, I understand where you are coming from. However...

Some teams peak early (Georgia this year), others get hot at the end of the season, it happens in both college and the NFL. Let me remind you of wildcard Super Bowl winners: 2021 Tampa Bay, 2011 Green Bay, 2008 New York Giants, 2006 Pittsburg Steelers plus several others.

I believe we still have lots of "upside." Our OL will get better as the season progresses, our back four on defense will get better, I don't think our WR's can get any worse...just sayin but Williams and Randle could be the X-factors among that group. We could see Randle have a Ross like 2nd half of the year.

A lot will depend on injuries and defections for both us and the other top teams.

I do believe, if Wes will let the front 4 bring the primary pressure (no way our 2-deep can be blocked), put our LB's in space to make plays, drop a little deeper on passing downs to help out the back four and defend the screen pass. Just a few adjustments are needed for our defense to completely shut teams down.

My fingers are crossed our passing game can find the middle of the field...

Let's get through the next 2 weeks before we form too strong of opinions.

You were writing posts like this last year too. And we had 3 losses and could have very easily lost 2 more games. Fans on this site are seeing things from this football team that are eerily similar to last year. You can't expect people to just lie to themselves because of their fanaticism (fan) like you and some others on this board. I like my Clemson Tigers but I am not a fanatical about it anymore. I want them to go undefeated every year, but I know that is impossible. Now I still want them to win as much as ever but I am able to see things objectively and not through rose colored glasses. I don't see things how I want them to be or how I wish them to be. I see it for what it really is truthfully. Now can you understand posts like this heading?

It was just 2 years ago when Clemson was being talked about in the same sentence as Alabama as the next dominant team. We were not on the rise anymore, we had arrived. We were being spoke about nationally as a dynasty. That has all went out the window in just a little over one season. Fans have a right to notice this and speak up about the problems. Especially when the problems are totally fixable but aren't being fixed. Or are only slightly better than last year but not anywhere near previous years.

Open your eyes and stop wanting other "fans" to stay in the dark with you.

Looking at this season with DJU at QB and the Tiger O is averaging 41.3 ppg. In 2019 with TL16 at QB, the Tiger O was averaging 39 ppg after 3 games. Yeah, I know one of those games was Texas A&M at Clemson but they were a 5 loss team in 2019 and not very good.

What the heck does DJ need to prove to you? The dude threw for almost 400 yards, fan for 50, threw 5 TDs, and converted a game-tying 2-point conversion on one leg with someone else grabbing the other.

Frankly, tire of comments like this and "put Cade in with the first team".

Go Tigers.

Receivers are still having to stop and come back for his late and underthrown balls a lot. We cry for PI in situations when the ball just did not get delivered on time or in stride and the WR has to plow through the DB to try to get back to the ball. We need to stop blaming the WRs. They are open but have to close the gap to get back to the ball.

Also, Go Tigers!

DJ's delivery is too slow to make a WR screen work. I would prefer to see more RB screens.

If Hunter Johnson in we’d win.

If Alabama still #2 after stealing win in Austin we’re definitely #4
