I for one saw progress. Changes in personnel,

Oct 4, 2021, 6:39 AM

a running game, elimination of turnovers, penalties limited, and plays that could have really cracked the game open if our receivers had held on to the ball or the refs would have called the interference they "missed."

Now, what would constitute real progress at Syracuse? Not fantasy but solid movement forward? First off a win by whatever score it may be. But beyond that I would love to see 3 or 4 TD's - some set up or completed by our receivers catching and holding on to the ball, more running plays, and some surprises and urgency on the O. Remember, just my 2 cents worth. What would be your realistic assessment of progress in 2 weeks time? Go Tigers!!!!

Saturday to me would be finishing drives with TDs instead of field goals. Think the red zone play calling gets wonky. Need to work on the plan for that before Syracuse.

Saw progress as well

Receivers avoiding drops would be huge. DJ accuracy and improving fakes on handoffs. Keep the ball more.

TE needs to be less predictable. He was nice in first couple drives then when back to predictably.

Leadership on the offense seems absent. DJ needs to assert himself. Hopefully he is starting to doit and we don’t see it

Real progress would be a change at quarterback if the offense goes 3 and out in 2 consecutive drives.

Got to get healthy. I know Lay had a big drop but imo, we abandoned the tight end too quick and we're still not utilizing the middle like we should.

I see a lot about drops, but that happens. Not like Ngata or Collins have a ton of experience. Ngata been around but first year he's been able to stay on the field healthy. Same with Ross, especially in the slot.

I posted yesterday that I hope we stick with Collins in the slot and move JR back out. I hope Dabo doesn't put bock back at center as he hinted at doing.

You saw progress because we played unranked scrubs. Their run defense sucked.

As long as we keep ending games with 0 passing tds and 45% completion rate we will be lucky to win half our games. DJ is ranked around the 90th in the nation. So far no progress.

Yawn.

18 points and 55 percent. Yeah. Okay. LOL

I thought the run game output showed some signs of life finally. Mafah & Pace both had some spark at times. But then again you could see they obviously went the wrong way or missed assignments at times. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. And it seemed we finally attempted to involve the TE at least initially. Of course we lose our 2 starting TEs and that goes out the window. Fewer penalties was good.

More signs of concern :
1) sure our 'defense' won the game. But did they? I mean, I love our D. But if either QB for either team had been more accurate, the game would have been drastically different. Even the commentator remarked how inaccurate both QBs were. BC had a guy behind our guy for a TD more than one time.
2) 50/50 balls at Clemson had always been more like 80/20 balls with Mike W and Tee. Now they are more like 20/80 balls.
3) I'm not sure our offense has any player-leaders. I think Bock is trying but maybe its not his niche. Tough to say - I'm not in the locker room.

Outlook for the 2021:
1) we are not CFP this year. So go ahead and wrap your mind around that. Playing how we are, I don't even want to luck into CFP contention. I'm hoping for decent 8-9 win season, maybe eek out 10 wins with bowl game?
2) I don't see us beating Pitt or WF (barring some drastic overhaul). But we can probably sneak out wins vs Syracuse, Louisville, FSU, UConn. Could be a dog fight in W-B this year. (Ugh I just puked in my mouth with that....anyone have an Altoid?)
3) 2nd tier bowl game with hopefully a win vs middling SEC team.
4) Grow these boys up during the season and off-season. Come back next year ready to contend.

Pitt or WF have a better O than UGA? I think they are beatable if we continue to improve. Just my 2 cents.

+1 to this.

I don't think these 2 games are automatic losses.

Definite dog fights for sure but every game the rest of the way is winnable and if the offense continues to improve then Brent Vs Defense can probably hold just enough for us to win.

IMO if the offense gets to 24-28+ points per game we win out

Not saying automatic loss to either (thus my optimistic 10 win possible statement). But I think both QBs are as good as UGA, yes. Pickett was borderline NFL last year. And we saw guys running behind us in BC game that thankfully their 2nd string guy over-shot. Not automatic loss to either but not an automatic win in my book either. But I get what you're saying. I'm just worried about our Defense injury & fatigue by that point in the season; then facing 2 of the better QBs in our league. Could spell heartache.

Wake's toughest games are their last four, with three on the road. They play UNC, Clemson, and BC on the road, and NCSU at home

I agree with you.

Not having Bock at center seemed like it was a positive. WR and TE have to work on catching the ball and blocking but it looked like that was the most separation they’d gotten all year. RB did very well. I think DJ is getting better but has a ways to go. First I believe he over thinks and let’s the d pressure get to him instead of wiping the slate clean and moving on to the next drive. Also gotta work on his vision. If he would have cut it back on one of his run plays in the red zone he’d have had a TD instead of having to settle for a FG. Touch seems like a work in progress especially since the WR & TE let him down a number of time. Also wish they’d run more hurry up to get into a rhythm. Once they have a drive established and have the mismatches they want go go go.

D wise they were giving up way to many plays to a TE AGAIN!!! The Kryptonite to BV are TE and quick tempo offensives. D-line was getting good pressure against what was probably the second best o-line they’ll see all year. I wish they’d let the corners play closer to the line and not give the WR free releases too.

Well that’s it for my b!thcin’. Glad it’s a bye week so the guys can rest up and hopefully get some of the guys back. Go Tigers and make it a great week!

Well said

We need to see a QBR rating over 90. I’m not putting that only on DJ; but this would mean we were better at all elements of the pass game. It’s hard to believe we haven’t had a QBR over 50 all season when the AVERAGE for 2020 was 93. Again, not all on DJ, just an indicator of the health of your passing game.

If we performed a little better on BC's side of the field

none of these mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, coot sniffing, paw hand gesture throwing, whoo-hooing, fair weather trash would be saying anything on TNet. If you're wondering, yeah, I'm talking about YOU. Not you, AThomas. The other one reading this and wondering if I was referring to them.

Tied in with the red zone improvements would be better pass catching. Too many drops and not enough wins on 50/50 balls. Other than that, the offense looked MUCH better. Having success on the ground with our lead back and an O-lineman out, picking up a bunch of firsts and racking up over 400 yards against an undefeated conference opponent was HUGE for this team. Changes are being made, and they're working. DJ is clearly stepping up and improving.
