SEC professional NFL portal football league

Feb 3, 2022, 8:50 AM

Since the NCAA is seemingly powerless (or unwilling) to reign in the top SEC teams from outright purchasing players, why not just allow these wealthy SEC schools to "portal" professional NFL players to play? (It is not without precedent as the lamecocks brought in professionals in 1915) However, as opposed to an NFL team, these SEC teams could be allowed to have no salary cap. Instead of only earning 1 million, AM could then go to Texas A & M for a cool 20 million or more. ESPN could give the participating "NFL SEC portal schools" at least 100 million a year to buy these players.

The NCAA was just about the only entity standing up against these changes. They fought and lost. Now people seem to blame them for letting it happen. And I don't remember seeing one single post cheering the NCAA on when they were fighting the battle against NIL/Portal.

The NCAA has flight for equitability on issues for years and constantly criticized. They had to give in bit by bit due to public pressure. Now that it's the wild west in recruiting again everyone wants to blame them. Kinda funny isn't it?

I guess the players are just using the portal to go to the NFL when they are eligible after 3 years.

Why not allow teams from the ACC and other P5 conferences to do the same?

as the SEC. They just don’t have the same allure. (Allure = attraction ?? for some of you that are co fused) Right now the SEC is where nearly ALL high level recruits want to go - to play in huge stadiums/courts/fields, in front of rabid, large fan bases, in BIG games with national appeal.
