Nuke Hopkins opinion.

Jan 5, 2013, 2:38 AM

As much as I want Nuke to come back for his senior year, I just don't see how it will benefit him with the draft. There is not much more he can accomplish as a senior. It's hard to believe that he can do much better next year with what he has done this year. Don't get me wrong, having a degree is awesome, but from a football standpoint, it just seems like he has done it all. I believe he is one of the best receivers in football. However, I don't think he has much more he can accomplish. From a National Championship perspective you can make the argument to come back, but there is a point in a player's career were he has to look at what more can he do. Plus, look at Latimore, the risk seems high. I believe this is his last year at Clemson, but I hope not. Either way, he has done an amazing job. In my opinion, he has not receiver the proper gratification.

I'll be more than happy for this post to blow up in my face! I've been wrong before, wouldn't mind this being one of them.

I personally think he is the best receiver in college football but none of the analyst seem to think so, I think it will all be based on his draft projection! I hope he comes back, but if not I hope he has a great career in the NFL!

Now is the time for Nuk to go. He had a fantastic season and got to finish it up on the big stage with a record breaking game. From a career standpoint, his value to an NFL team is probably at its highest now. He's given Clemson his best and Dabo will be honest and forthright with him.

just an opinion & Nuk will weigh all sides I am sure!***

Same could be said of TB, don't you think?

Jan 5, 2013, 10:09 AM

I'm not sure what TB can improve upon from this year, and if Nuk goes then that is a major asset he loses for next year. TB is done growing, so he's not gonna get taller. Other than team goals, it would seem that individually he should go ahead and declare - especially if the qb class is so weak that Logan Thomas is predicted as a high pick.

Re: Same could be said of TB, don't you think?

Jan 5, 2013, 3:15 PM

TB can come back and compete for the Heisman. Media exposure can up his stock next year alone.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heisman is key. Plus he may prove he is now stable...

Jan 5, 2013, 3:27 PM

....and another 11 win season or especially a NC run will help his standing. He could even be a first round if he has two stellar seasons in a row. The 2011 was good, but not stellar.

Love Nuk, and I am not singleing him out

Jan 5, 2013, 3:34 PM

but these guys made a deal to come to college to get an education (I know I am naive) so I think they all should honor that commitment.

I just don't see Nuk being able to improve his draft stock

Jan 5, 2013, 3:54 PM

significantly, if at all, with another season. The one knock against him from a scouting perspective is his relatively slower 40 time, which isn't going to improve from one year to the next. Regardless of his talents in other areas, NFL teams will be compelled to draft a few receivers boasting fairly faster 40 times than his.

IMO he would be risking a lot to come back for his senior year. DeAndre McDaniel comes to mind. As an A-A junior, he was prime for a solid draft pick. Playing his senior season put him out of the draft completely. Would love to see Nuk back in 2013 but the kids needs to go ahead and take the plunge.

There's plenty he can accomplish…

Jan 5, 2013, 4:02 PM

He can be a part of another conference championship team. He can beat his rival. He can compete for a national championship. And he can live the life of the big man on campus while upping his earning potential in the draft with a big year catching passes in a pass friendly offense.

Nuk, ask Spiller what that extra year can do for your NFL payoff.

Re: Nuke Hopkins opinion.

I haven't seen anything that lists him as a sure 1st round prospect. In most cases it's been early to mid 2nd round. If he comes back next year, he doesn't have to equal this years performance. If he gets 1100-1200 yards and 10-12 with Watkins playing the full season, he'll still move up from this year's position just based on consistency.
