How was the Syracuse game, putting Cade in, different?

Nov 27, 2022, 2:57 PM

I’ll tell you…by week 13 (or 14, depending on how you count it), Cade should be 100% capable of running this offense in its entirety. This has purely been a coaching failure all season…but in particular the last 1/2, when Cade came in a lead the team to victory over Syracuse. That was when the page should have been turned. Either the coaches have failed to get him ready, or they have failed to put him in…one of the two…but DJ with 99 yards passing was obviously not going to win that game yesterday. Everyone knew it, except Dabo and Streeter. One of them needs to accept the blame for failing to have a QB, by week 14, that could throw for more than 100 yards in a game that we are still clearly more talented in. Man up Dabo.

His winning the Syrexcuse game was the problem.

Dabo had to fend off all the “quarterback controversy” talk from the media. He hates that. Actually trotted DJ out at the end for the victory formation FFS. For a game that Cade won. He’d rather just stick with DJ and lose games than put up with that. Any time Cade came in after that, it was either hopeless or they called plays that would not let him show out.

Remember in the opener against GT? Cade came in late in the 4th and orchestrated a beautiful TD drive. QBR of 97, higher than DJ obviously. Everyone could see the difference between DJ and CK. EVERYONE. And the “quarterback controversy” talk started. That pierced Dabo’s thin skin and he hated it. So next game, Furman, Cade is brought in, in the first half(!!!), hands off, hands off, then a terrible play call that gets him sacked. Then benched. Mission accomplished. QB rating of zero point five or something. Dabo hopes that will end all that chatter that he hates. Hopes that teaches everyone a lesson.

And Dabo had a promise to DJ to keep. Success has made him very proud and arrogant. The Bible is full of stories like him.

I think that promise came way before season started.***

I hope there are a few reporters on Tuesday with the guts to hold his feet to the fire and demand he answer some questions or make him stomp his feet and walk off. THAT would make the news.
And why is he afraid to sit down and have an interview?

It's incredible...DJ gets worse as the game goes on: you see him regressing, his confidence fleeting, and his "deer in the headlights" look as pressure mounts...and we don't give Cade a chance to spark the team. It's absolutely perplexing. Even if Cade isn't the "better" QB in practice, isn't there a good chance he elevates above DJ with his confidence alone? With his energy? I just don't get it. Cade should have started the second half in this game and the ND game.
