I never heard the whistle to blow the play dead initially.

However, when the Troy player picked the ball up and began running, the refs continuously blew their whistles, indicating that the play was dead.

Forward progress had stopped so that would be a clear indication of the play being over.

Started running out onto the field by the time the ball was dropped. Play was dead.

Ellington's goal line fumble in the Orange bowl which completely changed the complexion of that game. Dye's could have had a similar effect. #dodgedabullet

was the only thing that could save us but I thought it was a quick whistle. Looked like typical goal line play to me where people were still struggling. Just surprised nobody is talking about it.
