Cable/internet subscription secret to entry pricing

I’ve seen a lot of streaming poasts lately and with streaming services raising prices having one or two packages is getting close in price to having a cable/internet subscription. So I thought I’d share what I have been doing for about 4 years straight. Most all cable providers offer their “new customers” a highly discounted rate for a year and then raise the rate almost double after that. You used to be able to call and complain but that never works anymore.
So, once a year when my yearly contract runs up and my rates double. I cancel my service. Pack all the boxes up and drive up to the cable store and drop it all off. Walk back to the car. Have my wife call and open up a “new customer account” (sometimes with free hbo or cheaper prices or faster internet) for the same rate and make sure to decline any installation or shipping fees. I walk back inside check out all the same equipment drive back home and hook it all up.
It takes about two hours of time but usually saves me over a $1000 a year and it keeps my cable prices down.
FYI….in order to be considered a “new customer” to get the cheaper intro rates, you just have to be without an active account for 30 days. So every year we just switch it back and forth in our names. I have Comcast, I know others who do this with charter and time Warner.

You would think one internet company would get lower rates, less customer service employees, less advertising, and more happy customers, who by word of mouth, advertise their services and price.

That is a lot of work. Most of the time you just simply have to call your provider and threaten to cancel because you are not satisfied. They often offer you a cheaper rate.

Yeah that doesn’t work anymore. Last three times I tried that they just flat out said no.

This doesn't meet my criteria for low morals and I think you are a bit tough by calling him out as such. If you really want to talk about low standards of conduct, I believe a far better case can be made regarding the ethics of the cable carriers and their disrespect for their long standing customers by price gouging. My opinion - for what it's worth.

Good on you. It's not often someone admits they have no morals.

Hey I’m just trying to help some people out with saving money. Once a year it takes two hours of my time. Not really that much work. I save thousands of dollars which is why people are cutting the cord in the first place.

These companies have slumped below morales when servicing their customers. They beat their chest that they offer 100 channels, but they fail to tell you that you aren’t going to watch 75 of them because it’s channels no one cares about. I do not want to watch CNN, Fox News, C-Span, the cooking channel, Latino HBO or anything like that, if you really want to “service customers”, lay out ALL the channels and let me choose the ones I want to pay for, instead of choosing the ones you think is “right for me”!

You don’t know what morals are. Corporations are completely immoral, unethical beasts who deserve to be screwed. These big companies are not doing business for the good of our world, just to satisfy invisible shareholders and executive greed. Eff them.

People like you need to get a life. Comcast and Time Warner gouge their customers. You can be with them for years and call and ask for a discount and they tell you to F off.
The game is rigged and anything the little guy can do to get an advantage or save a little bit of money it’s perfectly fine by me.
I gave my sister my Amazon prime ID and password and she gives me her Netflix ID and password. I guess you think we’re going to hell!
There’s something in the Bible about he who is without guilt living in glass houses and throwing the first stone?! As my mother says, God doesn’t like ugly. Judgmental people like you are ugly! You’re also a hypocrite because no one lives without sin. And being judgmental the way you are is a sin!

Mine is starting to advertise streaming on their faster internet as a cost saver. They seem to be punting on their own cable line of products. Of course they just got aquired
